Hey All, as I mentioned on the zoom meeting, I am a RAC member and there is $118k of funds to be spend on projects in El Dorado National Forest this year. Projects that focus on trail improvements or watershed protections would be getting priorities. Here are a few ideas I am running by Kyle:
-Tools and the Carsonite (brown plastic trail markers) to refresh trail signage
-Hand tools (log rolling tools and loppers for clubs to use when doing maintenance)
-Info boards for ends of major trails
-More permanent maps to go onto info boards (metal printed type)
-Custom printed trasharoos to give out in exchange for people collecting trash (was thinking something like raffle prizes for a hosted event)
-picnic tables/materials to build some dispersed camp sites along strawberry creek
Please post up your suggested ideas and I will run them by Kyle.
Here is the press release from the forest service with a bit of background on the RAC and the funding. It is for sure an interesting program and I applied to be on the RAC in 2016, they went into a holding pattern, and 2 months ago the funds were made available so they re-formed the group. The last few meetings have been very bureaucratic with adopting rules, etc. but the next meetings will be voting on projects.

Does setting up a kiosk at the north end of Strawberry already included for funding? If not, can this be added? If so, how are the funds initiated to get acquisition of the materials & get started?
I know we move rocks around (& some get moved back), are there funds available to take more serious steps, like making moves that are more permanent using larger equipment?
I would support setting up picnic and or camp sites along Strawberry in locations previously mentioned, but how can this be initiated? Do we need to provide an estimate & submit with a narrative?

how about toilet on the trail
The club already has one of these.
That's what I'm talking about (big purchases), they tend to get "lost" in people's garages.
Toilets, pop-ups, rock trailers, SAT phones, tools... all sound like great ideas, but usually end up collecting dust at one person's house.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I would think it would have to be a pit toilet, like a small version of the one at the beginning of Fordice & Signal Peak. But that would be a major undertaking to build & then to keep clean. A portable toilet would be hard to get up there & even harder to clean, unless they make something similar to pit toilets, but easier to move around. I think it’s a good idea, just have to overcome the logistics... maybe our trailer!

If it's up on top of the hill could have a pipe that goes over way over to the other side of the mountain in the valley out of sight to fertilize the plants and trees.
JUST KIDDING !!
If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.
