Just a heads up: There's been a lot of activity over on the Pirate4x4 board in regards to some pending legal decisions that may impact Deer Valley and Strawberry. (possible temporary closures which could ultimately lead to permanent closures (worst case))

I'll be following along closely and try to have more info for our April meeting at 4Wheel Parts.
This legal process has been going on for a number of years now so its difficult NOT to regurgitate old info as new, please feel free to chime in if you have any info.

I think we need to step into the discussion with them and be prepared to demonstrate the committment we have provided to the trail over the past (nearly) 10 years...
I just read the thread for the first time this evening and was already planning to contact the USFS tomorrow morning to request the most recent update and status. The thread covers 38 trails possibly affected and heads off on multiple tangents. I'll step into the thread once I speak with the USFS tomorrow morning letting them know of our commitment to Strawberry and the work we've done in cooperation with the DOF over the years.
All are welcome to chime in as well.

Keep an eye out today: http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/.....ts-notices
The Forestry Service is working towards posting a bulletin today (or in the next couple of days) concerning recent activities in regards to 42 trails in the Eldorado National forest. Any and all comments you read on other boards are purely speculative until we are able to read the official notice.

FYI: At the site that George references above, you can receive ALERTS from their RSS feed almost as soon as the site is updated update. The only lagging factor would be how often your system updates (mine is set at 30 minutes).
This way, you don't need to keep one eye on work and the other on the website.

I'll be bringing more information to our meeting next week at 4Wheel Parts. Also, I spoke with Ranger Lester Lubetkin today. He has offered to come to our club meeting in May to dicuss the latest activities.

The guys at FOTR (Friends of the Rubicon) are scrambling to figure out the best way to handle the expected influx of wheelers. The Forest Service is considering posting alternate OHV trails in neighboring forests on their website. The FS has also asked that local clubs look into hosting events out at Prairie City, or provide poker runs, things like that; anything to keep interest in the sport, yet relieve traffic on the few remaining local trails.
There is optimism that these βhardβ closures are just an interim measure until environmental impact studies can be completed and submitted, then reviewed by the judge and a new ruling is issued.

So how many trails did the discuss opening at this meeting? Any discussion on exploring new trails that meet the environmental restrictions? If the "environmentalists" were truly that, wouldn't they be seeking solutions which meet the needs of everyone rather than their own agenda?
There are actually lots of trails behind my cabin, and MANY that are overgrown becuase they were closed for several years and then re-opened. If we wanted to go cut back a bunch of brush we could make several fun and challenging trails re-usable. That would be a completely legitimate option given the fact that all they are doing is closing stuff currently.

This will be the only way to wheel in the future...Mark my words.
I for one John hope that you are wrong.
If club members have not signed up with the California Association of 4WD Clubs Inc you should. This organization helps to fight for the little guy in Court on matters such as this.

At least I can go hunting...Wait...Nope
I can go shooting...Wait...Nope
Spend money...
There we go, we can spend a lot of money on our hobbies and generate a lot of tax revenue. We just can't use the equipment we purchase.
So we can spend money on new guns...Wait...Nope
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Don't get me started on Cal4Wheel...I'm in a bad enough mood as it is πΏ
I'm with John on this one. Based on my personal experience I couldn't recommend Cal4Wheel to anyone. Times may have changed but they certainly haven't shown me they're worth the annual dues.
