I have a minor addiction to cheap pocketknives. I know you can easily pay lots of money for fancy, high-quality knives, but I'm amazed at the number of solid-quality knives that are available these days for just a few dollars. Of course, they are all made in China. Even so, the quality has become quite good.

Example here is the CRKT Squid Folding Pocket Knife.

Just the right size for everyday carry. The blade is shorter and wider than most knives, was sharp as heck right out-of-the-box. Fit and finish is excellent. Metal quality feels nice. Comes with a pocket clip, which I like to remove on my knives. Just a great little knife to keep in your pocket and handle whatever comes up.

Excellent value at $16:

I love this knife, after TSA confiscated a few of mine (don't forget whats in your bag when you miss a scheduled flight and have to go standby) this was on of the replacements.  Like buck said it is wider than most for this length so it has a nice sturdy utility feel to it.  Also makes a great gift as they are designed for engraving/etching you can personalize them.

CRKT has some great designs and they build a solid knife.

I don't currently own any but I've been tempted more than once by their "Pilar".
