So I need new shoes for the JT and I'm torn between a couple. First is the Baja Boss AT, second is the Wildpeak AT4w, and last is the Wildpeak RT1. I think I'm jaded by my super cheap Haida's(dealer I stalled don't blame me) that have been horrible at chucking. I'm guessing that if I go with a reputable manufacturer that I won't have my current issues? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

The RTs only come in load E for 35s and up so really designed for fool size trucks. Any modern quality AT should keep you happy.(Toyo/nitto, BFG/Michelin, Cooper/mickey/goodyear, yokohama, are all solid) I'm generally leery of odd ball tire names but it is worth a google as some are just one of these carcasses with different tread on it for example the Deegan 38 is just a Mickey which is just the cooper STTpro with a different tread and successor to the MTR.
If the chunking didn't come from wheeling in the rocks then make sure your ball joints and alignment are solid.

I drive a TJ so apple to oranges, but I love my Baja Boss tires that I bought last year. Much better than my Goodyear Wrangler MTR's (but they were old because I primarily use my Jeep for trails).
Jeff, I'm surprised to hear about your MTR's. I am still running 37" MTR's (D rated) & have been for quite some time & thought they have been the one's to have. In what way are your newer tires better? I will replace mine in time & may consider changing brands, if it's for the better. Maybe the difference in rigs may contribute to it, who knows. Thanks.

I get better traction on dusty granite rocks/slabs and it seems better traction overall. That said, my MTR's were getting pretty old. I really haven't run them in the snow enough to judge so the jury is still out on that one.
Interesting about traction, yet the amount of tread has a lot to do with that. Our snow runs will tell you how they work in those conditions. Thanks...

Tire age plays a huge impact on grip. As they age they get hard through oxidation and loose their flexibility then eventually get brittle and crack. At 7 years, most shops wont touch tires for liability purposes.
The "new" MTR came out in 2009 and appears to have been pulled from the goodyear website. Micky is made by Goodyear, likely in the same facility sharing a carcass with the new Goodyear Fierce MTs and Boulder MTs.

I have the Nitto Trail Grappler MT on my JK and they worked great in the snow and pretty well on Hell Hole run. My lockers didn't work on Hell Hole and I was able to get through the trail until having to winch up at the waterfall.
My brother had both the Nittos and Mickey Baja Boss on his JKU. He liked them both but preferred the Mickeys. I don't know if it was the performance of the tread or the fact the Nitto was 35 and Mickey 37.
