The auto start/stop feature on my Jeep has disabled itself. Last time it was the Aux battery being dead. Being the vehicle is not that old, I am not pleased with this happening again. Does anyone know of w way of eliminating this feature so I can eliminate that extra battery? Based on the size, it honestly looks like a motorcycle battery. Also looking for the best way to replace then thing, last time I was told to remove the fuse box to get to it, and I ended up damaging something in the fuse box and had to have to be replaced by a shop, dont really want to repeat that.

Modern batteries are crap.  Used to be able to get a cheap battery with an 84 month warranty.

You have to replace both batteries at the same time or one will kill the other. Upper battery is easy from up top, small battery is easiest through the inner fender liner from down below.  Youtube has some videos that are clear.

Secondary question, is there any way to delete that system? I don't have remote start, and every time I get in, I disable the auto stop/start.

The start stop and second battery are technically 2 separate systems.  Start stop will still work with the aux battery removed and you can disable start stop without touching the batteries.

Yes you can delete the second battery, pull the ESS fuse (#42), and disconnect the cables from the second battery and tape them up out of the way so they cant touch. You will probably get a dash warning unless you disable somehting in software.

Tazer mini and a security cable, smartstartstop module, or JScan and security cable. Tazer has a bunch of other features like turning off license plate light while backing up at night, and allowing lockers in 2wd but not much to do if you dont have a rubicon. Smartstartstop is a in-line plug in module that gives the button a memory (so it will stay off after being selected even when power cycled) and is super easy to remove if brought in for service at a dealer. JScan uses your phone to go through everything so allows most diagnostic features and manually configuring all settings like changing individual lights to LED. The JScan method for stop start also disables remote start but the tazer version doesn't.

I have the JScan app and cable so I can turn the feature off at the next meeting for the $17 or whatever it costs to add a VIN to my account. But the hardware wouldn't be yours and we would then have to coordinate meeting up to reset anything. Since you are out of warranty this would be the cheapest option and shouldn't impact you.

All good information to have. I will wait on the software changes for now, as I am going to be changing tire size and gear ratios so I think it would be best for me to have a system of my own. I do appreciate all of your help.

I was helping a buddy do some research on his and it looked like replacing the battery through the fenderwell was much easier. Did you have the battery registered after the last replacement? I keep reading that you have to do it so that the system understands it is new and needs to change the charge profile. Not sure how real that is, but will be good to know for reference.

I am aware of Ford and BMW requiring this on some new models but I haven't seen anything like this for jeeps. I would assume the battery sensor would immediately detect being disconnected and start a learn cycle automatically but just because common sense says to do things one way doesn't mean engineers followed that path.  If you find anything for sure saying to register a battery then please share.

So a little bit of extra info on this. There is 100% a way to bypass this with pulling a fuse and moving a cable around. Speaking from experience you don't get any WCA lights. I did this on my JLU that I had after it ate the 3rd set of batteries under warranty. On my Gladiator I swapped in a bigger main battery without issue and I'm waiting for the aux one to die. Going through the fender is the way to go and if you decide to replace that battery, or just remove it I can help with a rivet puller. Sorry if this isn't worded great, but as a mechanic I'm good with a hammer, not with grammer!

Sorry forgot to mention it, but if you change the battery you don't have to register it, but it does help to reset the "smart battery monitor". It's not required but will make the start stop system work faster. It will also figure itself out after a few days if you don't reset it.... guess it isn't that smart?
