Some of us talked to Kyle a little bit about the trail while he was dropping off maps for the snow patrol.  It looks like forest service management has signed off on trail repair plans so now staff is moving forward to get grant funding from the green sticker fund to complete trail repairs.  Im sure this will be a topic of discussion at the grant open house tomorrow.  Current plan calls for about $80k in repairs but I don't yet know the specifics of where that money is to be spent.  The new fiscal year starts October 1 so if all the paperwork is approved we could start repairs, weather permitting, right after that.

I will post more info when I have it.

So potentially we would start repairs in October? So no go for this summer for general public?

Um...what?

Yes, we could potentially start repairs in October but we will have to step up and do a ton of organizing to facilitate that, have a mild fire season so forest service staff is available, and hope weather cooperates.  Im talking with other clubs who have done similar projects and based on how big our member BBQs get I think we can handle it.  It all depends if the grant is approved and the forest service is willing at the start of the fiscal year.  We will need all hands action plus outside volunteers.  At a minimum we will need the following:

-Borrow rock trailers from RTF

-Short wheelbase Jeeps to tow trailers with materials (5+ depending on how many trailers we get, JKUs can probably do it but TJs wheelbase seemed to make things easy)

-Trucks to haul in bulky materials (this will be to the middle of the trail so lifted trucks, not tow rigs)

-Generator, air compressor, refreshments at work site

-Tractor with loader bucket to load rock at high end of trail (my 24hp tractor cant lift as big of riprap as needs to be hauled in, ~35hp+ needed)

-GHP Crew to check in, park, and direct volunteers from outside the club

-GHP Crew to cook food for volunteers

-GHP or Volunteer Crew to monitor radios and relay messages over the hill (work will be in middle of trail and staging will be on the high side, 2+miles and a hill mean CBs are out)

-Paperwork...

-Plan locations for camp sites, turn arounds, equipment access, rock dup locations

-More I haven't thought of yet

No-go for public access until the meadow is fixed per court order.  Since the trail was closed by a judge and not the forest service, the meadow has to be fixed before it can be re-opened.  If the Forest service re-opened the trail without the fix, the district ranger who made the call to open it would be in contempt of court.

Well,  When the timing is right and we have some dates, we can announce the work days on our podcast.  I just may end up having to sign autographs instead of helping if we do that.  cool

Um...what?

As I have said in some other posting I have a huge plastic water tank that would kinda fit in the back of a full sized rig or in a trailer if someone had a trailer to haul it in.

I also have a huge trailer mounted generator big enough to power a house motor runs good for an old school hand crank start motor but the magneto/coil part on the generator has stopped making power. Could just need the coil cleaned or something, only if we had an electrician in the club to look at it then you would have that to take too.

We'll be one of the tow vehicles, since we have a short wheelbase

We may use the water tank.  I will know after I meet with the road engineer to know exactly what is happening.  Just depends on the details of the fix and if compaction of soil is required.

The generator is way bigger than we need though.  Since we will need to haul this to the center of the trail between obstacles, I dont see getting the trailer mounted generator being easy enough to justify attempting.  A 3,000watt unit should be plenty.

We'll just PM me if you need the tank and you can borrow it. The generator on the other hand would be hard to get to the middle of the trail but would come in handy for anything else we would need like power at base camp on other camp trips or if a club member forgets to pay their electrical bill lol
