1/1/11 - Snow Run

EDIT: The run is on January 1, 2011

We'll meet at the Safeway on Sutton:

867 Sutton Way
Grass Valley, CA 95945

Take the Brunswick exit off of 49 and it's tough to miss. There's a gas station across the street and a Starbucks in Safeway. Meet at 8:30, leave by 9.

/EDIT

I get the hint. ๐Ÿ˜€ Anybody up for a whole (1/1) or half (1/2) snow run? If we get a fair amount of low snow in the next two weeks we can shoot for something low like chalk bluff. If the snow stays high we can shoot for Bowman Lake. I'm thinking we can go through Graniteville this year to mix it up a bit. Either way, we'll shoot for the Grass Valley area and I'll lead us into the mountains, get us within a mile or so of getting out the easy way, get us hopelessly stuck, and force us to turn around making for a long day. lol It'll be dirty John, but I think we can avoid actual mud. 8)

I'm leaning toward a whole (1/1) snow run, because I don't have anything lined up for New Year's Eve, don't care much about college football, and prefer Saturday runs. What's everybody else think?

Just wanted to bring this back up to the top since it's this Saturday. The snow has been high so we'll plan to head up the hill. I'm thinking we'll meet in Grass Valley. We'll head toward Bowman, but we'll try and go in via Graniteville instead of Washington. It's a bit more of a gentle slope and there are a bunch of areas out there to explore if the snow gets too deep too quick.

I'm getting excited about this run. Unfortunately, a bunch of the forest roads are closed for the season, but there are plenty of County (dirt) roads up there that are open. Plus, we're expecting snow tomorrow. Unless anyone has anything in mind that they want to see for sure there's a handful of mining towns that are doable if the snow stops us. We'll go through Malkoff Diggins either way, if the snow is low on Graniteville we can cut over to Alleghany, and see where we can get on Henness Pass road. Should be a good time!

We got a light dusting of snow at my place today. Should be plenty up the hill! I did hear that there was only 2-3' of snow at Bowman before this last storm though.

I don't think it's possible to have too many chainsaws. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Doesn't bother me either way if you decide to bring yours.

Just got the official report. There's about 48" of snow at Bowman and we'd have to climb quite a bit higher to drop down into it. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Come on...ok, it'll never work, but that's why we have plan B = lower elevation!
