I took the Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Online course from the American Red Cross today. The cost is $25. After you complete the course you can print out your certificate of completion. You can start and stop the course at any time and work on it at you own pace or as time allows. It will probably take between 2 to 5 hours to complete depending on your beginning level of knowledge and experience. It's a little like playing a video game and you have to do things in the proper order or you may fail and have to do the section over again. The online course uses animated tutorials and scenarios and you have to complete each section in all three levels of the first aid and CPR sections. A hands-on class would be more beneficial for someone who has never had formal training but it sounds like the online class is all that is required for chainsaw certificate. A hands on class would be more time consuming.

Mike, try the link below. Put in your zip code and select class category First Aid, CPR and AED then click Search for Classes. I selected the Online class but there are also Online plus Classroom classes for $90 that meet OSHA/workplace requirements. I'm hoping that the Online only one will be adequate for the chainsaw certificate. I did plenty of CPR and medial aid in my days as a firefighter so I'm hoping I (we) don't have to take the Classroom version!

If you have never had training in CPR, the use of and AED (automatic external defibrillator) and first aid, then the online class will take more time and probably isn't the best way to learn the skills. It also might be a little frustrating because the instructional part is brief so you will probably do a lot of trial and error when doing the simulations. The sequence of the steps is often important so if you don't do things in the correct sequence you might fail and have to try it again. Fortunately you can just repeat a section immediately if you fail. In each section you are scored from 0 to three stars. You only need to score one star to pass! Here is a good link if you want to study CPR and AED's before taking the online class but all the information you need for the tests is contained in the online class:

This is who I have my certification through. They are located in Folsom. When I did mine, they have you take an online course and then come in for a few hours for hands on testing. Pretty easy and straight forward.
Um...what?

At the last club meeting I believe someone said they are a certified CPR instructor. I have access to some CPR manikins if the club would like to use them. I will know how many I can borrow tomorrow.
Hey Jeff my brother is a CPR/First Aid instructor. I'll let him know tomorrow when I see him and give him your contact info

Kris, I decided to buy my own safety gear so you can lend the set that I was going to borrow to someone else in the February class. There is a lot more snow down low than there was last month but I'm hoping they don't cancel the class. Maybe they can find a lower location or perhaps the club can just wheel the instructor in!

Due to mud and snow at the training site, the Feb 10-11 Class has been Cancelled.
They are expanding the March Class to fit everybody and adding a potential class in late march/early april if the March date doesn't work so let me know what date you would like to attend. Until I hear from you I will put you down for the March class to save you a spot.
