Darell and Lynda got slots in the class. Brian and others have the option to sign up for an additional class on the 24th and 25th of Feb. I will create a new thread for that class.
"Hello all. Here is the information on this weekend’s saw class. It is held at the Placerville Ranger District, district office. Saturday will be classroom and Sunday will be the field day. The location of the field date will be provided Saturday, but it will be in the local area of Camino or Pollock Pines. People that are recerting, are required to be at both days, however, Saturday for the recerts, it will be only a few hours. Class will start at 8 and end around 4-5. If you have a saw, feel free to bring it and any safety gear you have, which includes hard hat, safety eye wear, gloves, chaps, long sleeve shirt and hearing protection. If you don’t have a saw or gear we can provide it for you. I’d also bring a lunch for both days. If you have current first aid/CPR card, bring that also. You can take the course without a current first aid/CPR card to get your saw cert, but you won’t receive your saw card until you provide a copy of a card. Marc will explain everything Saturday."
The office is located on 8 Mile Rd just before Pollock Pines. Turn right and it will be the first driveway with all the forest service signs.

As an observer, the chainsaw class went well, except the "felling" portion on Sunday afternoon, which was cancelled due to strong winds (called for safety reasons). Lynda, Drew & Darrell all passed for limbing & bucking. The class on Saturday presented several revisions from when I attended, which were well thought-out & added a layer of common sense. As usual, the class stressed many safety aspects, which is an important part of the curriculum. Congratulations to all.
Also, somebody had asked if it were possible to create an advanced class to continue the knowledge & experience beyond what this class presented. The answer would be under consideration, pending interest, funding, availability, etc. It would behoove those who are interest to urge Kyle to look into this possibility (via Kris). Anything & everything you can do to better your skills & awareness of using a chainsaw would be worth it's weight in gold.

I agree. I would like to see some of us get certified to fell without supervision. I know most of what we do only requires limbing and bucking but there are some snags (dead trees) off the trail that really need to be cleared. I saw several trees last year that under normal winter conditions were likely to come down over the winter. It would be nice to be proactive and remove some of these hazards before they come down on their own.
