Planned on heading up that way with the family anyways. Want to okay in the snow so we will probably be there. Getting the kids up that early is the hardest part. Lol
Just an FYI, this will NOT be a snow patrol style run where we find a spot, make camp, sled, etc. for the day. We'll be out adventuring the entire day. If the kids are good with that, come along! 🙂

Recap:
Roy and kids, Jeff, and myself met at the usual location at the Pollock Pines Subway. We ended up airing down after the first dam when a bunch of trucks decided to park in the middle of the road. After airing down Jeff led the way up MET where we ended up behind a slow moving white pickup that didn't want to pull over. After some time, Jeff may have convinced him because he finally stopped and let us by. We continued on up to North South Rd where it was all fresh deep snow. We all ended up getting stuck at first. Jeff began to cut the trail for a bit, but the snow at the beginning of North South was deep and wet. Afterwards, I took over trail cutting duties and made it to the bottom of the first big hill, getting stuck several times in the process. During that time, Roy came a short ways in and got stuck. Jeff recovered him and then Roy decided it would be best for he and the kids not to follow. Jeff then took over trail cutting duties at the bottom of the hill. It was slow going for a while but, at some point, the snow consistency changed to be more powdery. That's when things got really fun an we were cruising around 20mph through deep snow. We made it to the second bridge about 6.5 - 7 miles in and decided to have lunch there and then turn around. In hind site it may have been quicker to try and continue to 88, but we headed back to MET in short time and snow flying everywhere. Once back to MET the snow was packed and icy on the road. We ended up helping a pickup get unstuck which, in turn got us all stuck at some point. Afterwards, we continued up MET a ways to make sure a friend of Jeff's that he ran into earlier had made it out (he did). We then decided to head out and ran into the cluster-**** of vehicles making there way every which way. It was a combination of some capable rigs, and then pickups, suvs, subarus, and who knows what else that really didn't have any business being up there in those conditions. It was amazing to see the number of people standing and slipping on an icy road watching vehicles go by as if they were immune to being hit by a sliding vehicle. After getting through that in about 90+ minutes, we made it back to Subway where we aired back up and headed home. Overall, a great day on North South mixed with amazing stupidity on MET (my opinion 🙂 )
Maybe next time we venture in from the 88 side and then have an easier out.
Roy and Jeff, feel free to add anything I may have missed. 🙂
I'll be adding picks to the gallery.
