We need to respons ASAP.
The event is located at Prarie City OHV, off of Grant Line Road.
This offer is open to every member, prospect, potential prospect, associate member, associate prospect, friend of a member, friend of a prospect, friend of a neighbor of a prospect's cousin - well you get the picture... Attendees would need to responsible since they will represent our club during this activity. Youths can also attend (like Cole for example), and count toward our 18.
We have been asked to provide some security support for the Hangtown motocross event! This involves 18 people covering two six hour shifts on Friday May 31 (from 6PM to midnight) and Sat 6/1 (from midnight to 6am). This would mean 5 pairs working one shift and 4 pairs working the other.
What's in it for the club? We make $1200 toward our year end raffle!!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
What's in it for each volunteer?
Free camping, if interested
Free shirt for every attendee
Free UNRESTRICTED access to the event, including everything except the being on the racetrack!
Please respond here if you are interested, how many of you, and each person's shirt size.

I would love to do this but I'll be out of town.
This comment fostered a follow up call to Dana. Here is his response:
The committment is for both nights (the 30th/31st and 31st/1st). It is made up of 5 pairs for each shift, but the Hicks from the Highlanders have volunteered to be one of the 6-12 teams for the weekend.
All you need is a chair, some snacks and a flashlight. They provide the radios. The also provide lunch for volunteers, but the 6AM crew may get breakfast.
so, there are potentially four slots here unless you want to work an evening. Also, if you camp, you get full access during the day.

Maybe I'm slow...but they're looking for...
30/31
6pm-Midnight
10 people
Midnight to 6am
10 people
31/1
Same thing.
Somewhere the Hicks family sets off two of those people.
So that's 6 hours per shift * 10 people per shift * 2 shifts per night * 2 nights = 240 person hours? $5 an hour?
Who makes the money off the race?

4 (12 hour) shifts x 10 people = 40 people
That's a big commitment but I'm willing to help out for one shift.
There are 4-6 hr shifts (FridayPM, SatAM and SatPM and SunAM). Those shifts can be covered, or combined into 2 12 hr shifts.
The Hicks offered to work 6-12 both days. That means, we'd need 8 people for each PM shift, and 10 people for each AM shift.
The Hicks are the couple who builds the CA4WD raffle vehicle each year.
I think Keane's math on the pay rate is correct, but I guess these positions are nornally volunteered.

We need 36 people to cover the four shifts.
Still seems like a tall order...
You said you'd volunteer for one shift so it's only 35 people. Much more manageable. 😀
Seriously though, since this is halfway volunteer work, who actually makes the money of the event.
Any issues with our non profit status for getting paid to do something like this?

I agree. After the second conversation with Dana, I concluded we'd need 18 people per day, unless some people want to do one shift for the two days.
I think this is where Dana was referencing free camping. He assumed this would be an option for those who wanted both days.

Go find a bunch of homeless people and tell them you will give them a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 if they come to the event and stand around for the 10 hours.....I can't do it because I am working..

Ok, this only received limited support.
I will reply to Dana that we are out as a club. Would anyone be interested in handling a 6-hour shift on a night to help out? I think you get a t-shirt, get to sit in your jeep/Toyota (if you bring it), can look at other people's expensive stuff (but don't touch it), get exercise from walking around (unless you brought you vehicle), don't have to worry much about staring into the sun and won't need sunscreen and will have plenty of time to talk to yourself (or annoy whomever your partner is)..
Anyone? Maybe we could get enough people to cover the 6-12 shift on Friday? That would be 8 people. I could do it.

This is another follow up because I have not heard anything.
How about a post of who would be interested in Friday night from 6PM to midnight. I need to reply to Dana today and it looks like we can't provide him more than 2 names at this point?
Lee and I offered and can do the 6-midnight shift. I thought Keane, John and few others also were willing to commit. Can we put together a 6-12 team. Anyone? Please reply today if possible.
