There will be a Sierra Trek group on the trail Thursday. My guess is that you don't want to fight your way through them. Remember...they're asking for help on Thursday...it's just not required.
Wednesday run up the trail? 😀
I plan to get up at the crack of dawn on Thursday and driving in from the back side. I may need some help with directions, distance however.

From Where to Where do you need help with directions?
It would basically be how to get there from 89 north of Truckee, once off 80. I know some of the turns, but not all. I could try my JK's nav for the lake at the top. I'm pretty sure it would work. It's Meadow Lake, correct?

OfflineCan we try to keep the Sierra Trek posts in that discussion so we don't get information spread out in too many threads?
Here's a link to the main Sierra Trek discussion.

I can't get to that page. Is it in a member-only section?
Brad,
I'll give you a packet of info that I have from a previous year sierra trek back when main camp was up at meadow. It has detailed directions and a map of the meadow lake area.
I also have some of pics how WH5 was setup from a winching perspective showing what part of the trail to block and where to chain winch rigs to rocks.
Most rigs make it through WH5 just fine, but the wounded ones often need a tug to get them through.
A lantern for night-time spotting is also helpful. It sounds like they are splitting the run up this might not be needed. Years ago when they ran 120+ rigs through the entire trail, the tail end of the run could easily still be on the trail until after 10pm.
Closed Mondays.

OfflineMost of my pics are closeups of rigs 🙁
cliffnotes: put a rig where the blue truck is and chain it to the rocks as one winch rig. Direct traffic to the part of the trail where the white toy is.

The pic above has some good detail. The white toyota is the trail where they send all the traffic.
They block the trail where the blue truck is (by parking a truck there), and its a great winch spot as you can chain your rear bumper to large rocks.
In this pic, the white YJ is totally dead. I winched it up to the corner about 20 feet back from where it is now. Then the blue truck winched it to where it is, but the pull was bringing it across the hill and it almost rolled.
You can see a safety line on the roll cage coming from my jeep.
Then the white toy came down the hill for a straighter pull.
Here is where I am parked taking the pic above.

OfflineHere's another shot looking down (courtesy of 4x4wire.com) and you can see the orange rig tucked in blocking the tougher section and in position to winch.

Trivia note: picture above was taken in 99 and is the same white YJ I had to drag off the trail three years later in 02.
