Run update: The caples fire means the upper part of the trail may be closed. If the closure is still in place by the weekend then we will be patrolling the access road to the trail and the 11N36, 11N22, 17E78 loop. It is currently drizzling in EDNF so I am hopeful that the fire will be slowed enough to be fully controlled.
Saturday October 19th will be our second maintenance run of the year on Strawberry Pass Trail and the third maintenance run since the trail has re-opened. This is the trail the club sponsors. This is the Spring run was held on a Sunday in an attempt to accommodate peoples schedules. To maintain member status you must make 1 of the 2 maintenance runs. If anyone is unable to make this event and wasn’t on the spring run or fall run last year please talk to me at the meeting or send me a PM. That said, this is about trail clearing and maintenance for the forest service. Our key goal for this run is bucking the trees the equipment knocked down repairing the trail and moving the rocks back into place.
Trip info:
Meeting place – Shell at Pollock Pines exit off Highway 50 at 8:30am. We will meet and after a quick drivers meeting, split into groups, and will leave for the two trailheads about 9:00AM.
Things to bring:
-Gloves
-Loppers/hand saw
-Chainsaw (please only USFS certified operators, no exceptions) and safety gear (chaps, eye protection, ear protection)
-Tree Savers (to wrap around rocks)
-Crowbars/breaker bars to move rocks
-Water
-Lunch
-Door magnets
-Good attitude (this is pubic land closed by a lawsuit, our effort here is what reopened the trail and will keep other trails open)
Please post if you will be attending. A rig is not necessary to attend as there are plenty of open seats. Just post up if you will need a ride and I will make sure you have a seat before we leave the parking lot. If this is your first trail run with the club then please review the vehicle requirements. Expect more details at the drivers meeting.

I should be able to make the fall maintenance run. On our run last Saturday we identified several spots on the southern end of the trail that would really benefit by having rocks placed on it. People have moved or removed many of the rocks that we placed on the trail last year. The sections I'm talking about have plenty of rock above the trail on the slope so gravity would be in our favor when placing more rock on those sections. There weren't many places that need brush trimming that I could see. As best I can recall, there needs to be some trimming towards the north section and in the middle section of the trail. Personally I think that moving rock should be our primary focus. I saw some larger rocks that would be good to move onto the trail because they would be difficult for individual people to remove and they would act to slow rigs down because they would have to navigate around them if we place them strategically. Right now parts of trail look like a freeway. Just my 2 cents worth.

Sounds good. I agree with your thinking. if anyone has a good place to pull some big rocks from and roll into the trailer on the north end we can try it

Posse,
Regrettably, my wheeling days are over for awhile. My wife spent 10 days in the hospital with a collapsed lung. It turns out her cancer has returned in the pleura (lining around the lung) which is full of fluid.
I'll be taking over the household tasks and nursing her between chemotherapy sessions. Just can't see getting out for any extended time during her treatment and recovery.
I'm very sorry to miss any/all trips with you but, she is my number one life priority.
Keep the shiny side up,
Michael aka 2ndChance

You both will be in our prayers and if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. You need some groceries or dinner brought to you we'd be happy to bring it over

She definitely takes priority over wheeling with us. You both are in our prayers.

Well that blows. My wife and 2 close friends are cancer survivors and cancer took the life of my best friend a couple years ago. I truly hate cancer. Your both in our prayers and hope for the best. If you need any help, please feel free to contact me directly.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

So is newbies will be doing the BBQ portion of the potluck. If we can get a head count of how many to expect that would be awesome!!! Thank you. See you guys Sat!!!
This was discussed at the last meeting but it is a little late to announce this. Hopefully people will check the forum and give you an approximate head count so you know how much food to bring. Count me in for one. What are you planning to do food wise and what other food or things do you want others to bring (i.e. drinks, plates, side dishes, desserts, etc.)?
