Saturday October 8th will be our second maintenance run of the year on Strawberry Pass Trail. This is the trail the club sponsors and is closed to the public. This is the Fall run and falls on a Saturday in an attempt to accommodate peoples schedules as the spring run was a Sunday. To maintain member status you must make 1 of the 2 maintenance runs. These maintenance runs are the only way for non-members to run the trail. That said, this is about trail clearing and maintenance for the forest service, not about running the trail. Temperatures should be in the mid 60s and overcast so be prepared for unexpected weather changes. If anyone needs a member BBQ, this is a good opportunity.
Trip info:
Meeting place - Shell at Pollock Pines exit off Highway 50 at 8:30am. We will meet and after a quick drivers meeting will head up to the trailhead about 9:00AM.
Things to bring:
-Gloves
-Eye protection (sunglasses count)
-Loppers/hand saw
-Trashbags
-Water
-Lunch
-Sunscreen
-Good attitude (this is pubic land closed by a lawsuit, our effort here is what will reopen the trail and keep other trails open)
Things NOT to bring:
-Chainsaws (only those with FS certifications are allowed to use saws on this run)
-Open toe shoes
Please post if you will be attending. A rig is not necessary to attend as there are plenty of open seats. Just post up if you will need a ride and I will make sure you have a seat before we leave the parking lot. If this is your first trail run with the club then please review the vehicle requirements. Expect more details at the drivers meeting.

Hey Kris, speaking of chainsaws, have you heard of any possibility of a chainsaw class coming up anytime in our future lifetimes?

An interesting note in the October-November issue of the "In Gear" Cal 4WD magazine, specifically page 16 about the Strawberry trail. Noting progressing news regarding current happenings & the lack of mention of our club being the maintenance entity. I find it interesting that all other articles mention clubs & not us. Maybe a kind note to them may be in order, including our contributions.

Kris mentioned that this would be a good opportunity for a prospective member BBQ. By this run I will have attended four meetings and have made two trail runs. The Strawberry maintenance run will by my third run (or is this technically an event?). In either case, am I eligible to do my BBQ at the Strawberry maintenance run? If so, I would be happy to provide lunch!
Thanks,
Jeff

I am planning on attending this run as well and need to also provide a BBQ as a new member. Perhaps we can work together on this.
Can other club members give Jeff and idea as to what previous BBQ's have been? I don't have a way to haul a BBQ on the Strawberry Run. Last time I did this run with the club was up by pinch rock. Is that where we will have lunch this time?

Jeff (Sharkbyte),
Thanks, it would be great to work together on this. First I need to make sure that I qualify to do a BBQ at this event. The by-laws state "Official Member status is obtained by hosting a BBQ and paying their dues obligation, after reaching PM status". Technically I would not achieve Pending Member status until after my third run/event and this BBQ would be during my third run/event with the club. If I get confirmation that I'm eligible to do my BBQ on this run then we can firm things up at that point. I was thinking that either BBQed tri-tip sandwiches or BBQed bratwurst sandwiches (or a combo?) would be good to serve for lunch. The weather forecast looks good for next weekend at this point, so it should be a nice time for BBQ.
I believe that someone with a truck brought up a BBQ for Mike. I'm sure we can get some assistance with that.

Hello Jeff,
I did my club barbecue on a Strawberry Trail run several years back. I brought several kinds of lunch meat and cheese. Everyone was able to make there own sandwhich the way they liked it. Easy to transport in a cooler. Worked good I think.

Kris,
Looks like Jeff R and I are going to host the lunch / BBQ for the Trail Maintenance run. Do you have any type of headcount on the run so we can bring the appropriate amount of food?
If there are any other pending members that would like to join in on the BBQ please let us know.
Also, I may have an open seat in my rig as I don't think my wife can make it.

Jeff (Sharkbyte) and I are on for our member barbecue on the Strawberry Fall Maintenance run this Saturday. We need to get a headcount for lunch. Please let us know how many people will be in each rig so we can be sure to have enough food for everyone.
The tentative plan is barbecued bratwurst sandwiches with sauted onions and cheese topping. I have a small barbecue so I think Jeff and I should have everything we need. If anyone has any other dietary needs or doesn't like bratwursts, please let me know.
Thanks,
Jeff
