There's a road south of 80 heading down to onion valley, then up to black mountain.
an exit past nyack, then head south.
This was the same one as the "Tundra Trek" run at the Winter Fun fest. Was good with plenty of snow for sure. I have a feeling that it is socked in with snow now.
Can anybody going lead this or give better directions. Should we give it a shot?
I also suggested something around Washington or outside of Grass Valley. Since the snow is so low we could try something that may usually be dry.

the road I mentioned is often run for winter fun fest. Its been tundra trek and glacier assault in different years. I've been on it twice during winter fun fest. in deep snow it may be a really short trip.
Starting from the shell station at nyack, here is directions from google maps.
1. Head east on Nyack Pl
105 ft
2. Turn left at Nyack Rd
98 ft
3. Turn right to merge onto I-80 E toward Reno
1.0 mi
4. Take exit 158A toward Bear Valley Rd
0.2 mi
5. Turn right at Bear Valley Rd
125 ft
6. Turn right at Emigrant Gap Rd/Texas Hill Rd
Continue to follow Texas Hill Rd
9.9 mi
7. Continue on Forest Route 19/For Route 19
Destination will be on the right
0.3 mi
Forest Route 19/For Route 19
I need to get a rear drive shaft or I won't make this trip.
Closed Mondays.

The Tundra Trek from this year was right off of the Emigrant Gap exit on I80. Soon as you turn off the snow trail starts about a 1/4 mile from the exit and it makes a big loop ending back at Emigrant Gap.
I have the GPS track for this saved if anyone would like me to try and send it to them if you have a GPS.

So here are five options that I see…I’ll do some asking around tomorrow to confirm snow levels. Anyone else with info, speak up!
1. The Nyack run Dan outlined above. Looks like it starts around 5,000 feet.
2. The Emigrant Gap Run Steve described. Looks like it starts around 5,000 feet.
3. Start in Washington, head up Gaston Grade and see how far we get. Washington is at 2600 feet, but Gaston Grade goes up real quick. Looks like there’s a ridge around 4,500 feet that we can follow for a while.
4. Head out toward Graniteville. Graniteville is around 5,000 feet. There are a number of ways to get there. We can skirt Malakoff Diggins and hit Edward’s Crossing or hit Purdon’s Crossing and work our way up. There are miles of roads up there if we want to keep going.
5. Head up Chalk Bluff Road out of You Bet. That starts around 2,600 and hits Highway 20 at around 5,000 feet. If we have trouble or want to come home a different way, we can drop into Greenhorn.

This run is open to anyone that meets the club's basic requirements. I think 33" plus tires are a good idea and a locker would sure help. If this eliminates anyone that wants to go, let me know and we'll see what we can work out.

Option 5 sounds good to me. How's the snow at 2,600 feet? On the 50 side, you need to hit around 4,000 feet before you start driving on any snow.

We have patchy snow at about 2,600. Enough that some lady buried her Tacoma in a berm the plow left. I've heard there's real solid snow at about 3,500. Highway 20 was closed yesterday because of ice!
If we make it to Highway 20 on Chalk Bluff, we can easily drop down into Washington and see where we get. There will be plenty of snow out that way.
