Sounds good. What did the heim look like that you took out. What wore out?

The joint was sloppy. Otherwise it looked fine.

My Jeep drove pretty well. The front end wobbled a couple of times but never turned into full-on death wobble. It starts out as a tire wobble at around 45 mph, and if I hit a bump the front end tries to break loose. If I keep my speed below that or above that it seems to be fine. The rear bearing is getting real bad and it sounds like I'm making popcorn in my rear axle. I'll be going on Fordyce no matter what, but I'll have to address those issues when I get back.

We can pull your axles and take them to Parts Mike and they can press the new bearings on. You are looking at around $75.00 to $100.00 for new bearings, seals, and races. This should include the price to have the bearings pressed on.

This will probably only be to the first river crossing and back out or as far as we can make it then back out. This is an easy going trip for all levels of people who would like to go. I would still suggest 33 inch tires and 1 locker. There will still be a fair amount of snow, but we will have no problem getting to the first river crossing.
This is providing there are no snags on getting my new gears installed next Weds.
I was re reading your post....Last night at the meeting you said you wanted to meet at "sweat peas" I think it was around 8am.
Is that correct. Or did you want to hit the trail at 8AM? I can either meet you for breakfast or at the Eagle Lakes staging area just as long as I'm clear on the time!
Sounds like a fun time!

Rob, There was a guy named Jason at the meeting last night handing out cards. He used to work for (cough) Extreme Gear (cough-cough). His rates seemed pretty reasonable and he said I could just drive the Jeep to him. He'd have the "C" and the rear bearing fixed in one day. I'll shop around for some quotes, but he said he could swap the "C" for about $200. I'd prefer not to have to tear everything apart and put it back together myself. I'm just lazy that way.

Welcome aboard. We will meet at Swettpeas at 8:00 for breakfats...

Or we will meet everybody-else at the Eagle Lakes trailhead at about 9:30. If you are trailering, you can park at Cisco Grove, it's safer.

I would go for it at that price, but $200.00 sounds really cheap. That is probably labor only which is about normal. To cut and weld a C is anywhere from $150.00 to $250 per side. You dont have stock C's, so factor in around $150.00 for your aftermarket C.
Just make sure he doesn't work under the same philosophy as Extreme gear and tell you it will cost you $200.00 and when you pick it up, you get a bill for $600.00 😯

I keep looking at all these Jeeps and they all have a kicked-out tire on that side. justin's looks just like mine. I'm not convinced that it is the cause of my death wobble and I'm not going to spend money on it until i try other stuff.
It seems that the death wobble is starting at around 40 MPH, which leads me to believe that the wheels are causing it. I think I need to bolt on somebody else's wheels and see how it does. It might just be these cheap Champion Beadlocks that is throwing it off. I know they had to use a ton of weight on them to get them balanced.

I have a set of rims and tires you can bolt on to try out if you want.
