Posting this up to build interest. It is always a fun event. No 4 wheel drive vehicle needed, but it's fun to bring one.
DECEMBER 2, 2023
36th Annual 4×4 Gold Country Toy Run
Hosted by Hi-Landers 4WD Club
Pack up the babies and bring the old ladies and everyone come! This event is open to everyone and is always a lot of fun!
Bring camping chairs, blankets, pop-ups, fire pits, heaters, your wallets and that positive attitude. This event is for a wonderful cause and the main resource for our club’s ability to donate toys and food for families in need. In addition to the club donations, each member is encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or two. The cost is your choice but we usually say around $5.00 (as if that can buy anything these days!! lol) as well as additional food items. (Do I need to say they should be unopened or nonperishable???)
Meet at McDonalds near Hazel Ave and Hwy 50 by 8:30AM. A lot of us get there early and grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich.
We will caravan across the street to the Folsom Aquatic Center just before 9:00 and park along the far right of the center.
The Hi-Landers have a snack booth with chips, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and drinks. We usually support them with buying from that as well. They have raffle prizes you can buy tickets for. I believe they are $1 each.
Sometimes club members will bring goodies to share, like cookies.
Santa is there all set up to take fun photos with and the air is full of music from the greatest DJ! (Plays a lot of Country and Western!) They usually have tables set up with activities for the kids (big and small).
Decorate your rig! They have a cute parade where the contestants drive by the crowd slowly and show off their efforts and then someone is picked a winner!
It usually lasts from 9:00-1:00ish so stay as long as you would like to enjoy the comradery and the day.
Bathrooms are open.
**Be sure to sign the registration book under our club!** We have won most participation for 257 years in a row now! Let’s keep the streak going.
Be there or be square!
Um...what?

Some additional details from the Hi-Landers coordinator:
We will be supporting a group that adopts between 100-120 families each year that are part of the Sacramento Sheriffs Toy Project. This is one of the charities we supported last year.
Toys still remain the top need for all ages. You can't go wrong here.
Secondly is coats as they ran out last year, but they didn't ask specifically for coats either. Gently used coats are OK as long as very gently used and clean.
Sleeping bags are not really needed for this effort.
Hi-Landers will be doing blankets again this year and possibly a stocking project.
And of course, we also have the food drive for non-perishable foods.
Your club is such a great support. Anything you wish to contribute is greatly welcome.

Thanks for the clarifications! So, food, jackets and toys?
That's doable. coats unfortunately aren't inexpensive enough to purchase in large quantities.
Kids coats? adults? Anything specific on this end?
We purchased a variety of coats, and will purchase food for the donation as well this week. Personally, we have 3 coats in the donation, and will bring a couple toys too!
See everyone there!

We are looking forward to this event, one of our favorites of the year.Unfortunately, we won't be able to stay there as long as we usually do.
Elena is still recovering from her knee surgery and can't spend too much time away from her ice machine.
I'm sorry Elena's recovery is taking longer than expected. Please let her know we're thinking of her! I'm glad we will at least be able to see both you on Saturday.

Thanks. She's doing good and is right on schedule, but long periods of sitting, standing, and walking causes the swelling to build up.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Well, I was hoping to not have to say this, but we cannot make it. Got COVID after Thanksgiving and still testing positive so gonna have to hang at home. Does anyone recall if they take cash donations (they don't call it out on any of their info)? I still really want to support the effort and maybe I could send someone some cash to donate for us.
