As Mike said, it was a good day. The drive from Foresthill took about two hours and is a very windy road that passes through several deep, and very steep canyons. The temperature was nice and we were able to drive out there in t-shirts in an open Jeep at 8 a.m. There were a LOT of bicyclists on Mosquito Ridge Road and with the shadows and curves we had to be on the lookout for them. According to Brent and Dale there has been significant erosion making the rock ledges much more difficult than they had seen in the past. There were a lot of brush and trees encroaching on the trail. The larger trees that would prevent access had been cut and removed by someone but the trail did not appear to have been maintained this year so there was a lot of vehicle contact with the brush. We did a fair amount of hand clearing of down trees, branches, brush and debris. We went as far as the stream that crosses the trail just before you drop down towards the lake.
Brent almost got too close to a young rattlesnake when he was spotting for Dale until the snake decided to let him know that he didn't appreciate Brent's presence. Brent might have an opportunity to be in the next Olympics based on how fast he moved! Hopefully Dale just has a sprain and not a fracture. However, fractures sometimes heal faster than severe ankle sprains. Dale iced his ankle while we aired up so hopefully that will help. It was nice that Mike had an opportunity to get his Jeep out again after all the Gallagher family has been through. Although Dale's truck had charging problems, it was nice to see everyone pull together to get us back home safely.

Jeff, sounds like you had an eventful day. Lynda & I have been on this trail many times & so has Dale & Brent, so we can believe them when they say the trail is deteriated. Did you not go down to the lake on the trail because of Dale's leg damage?G
Dale and Brent felt that we shouldn't go any further due to time and trail conditions. We all agreed that it was time to head back. It turned out to be a very good decision since we ran into mechanical issues after that.

Once we figured out what was wrong with Dales truck "not charging" it became a race to get down the mountain before sundown. Thats another good thing about having matching trucks. Able to share parts. We ran Dales truck off my battery while my truck charged his battery. Dale and I picked up his truck at Mikes house and got it back home this morning.
A word of advice; if you hear what sounds like a air leak... Look around for a rattlesnake first.

I tried to add pics to the gallery Dale but low and behold I have no clue how to do it.
Mike, go to gallery, click photos and select the folder that you want to add photos to. On the right side, click add photos (or videos if adding videos), then click the down arrow in the Gallery (create a new gallery) field, select the trip you want to add photos to, select add files and navigate to the location of your photos (phone, computer, etc.), then select add files ( I think you can only add one photo at a time), add all the files (one photos at a time), then click upload files.

Hey Jeff I'll have to go look at that nifty how to Kevin said cause I did what you said cause that's what I tried to do but I got redirected to some other website and it wouldn't let me do anything from there.
Does it redirect everyone or just me when trying to upload pics?

It turns out that I do have a broken tibia bone in my ankle and not just a sprain I managed to work on it for one week but now it looks like I'm going to be down for a while. I am supposed to hear from the orthopedic surgeon on Monday when they can schedule me to come in and see if they have to do surgery on it hoping for the best LOL

It is the small bone on the outside of my lower leg I don't know what kind of fracture it is
That would be the fibula. The tibia and fibula articulate with bone below (called the talus) to form the ankle joint. Depending on the type of fracture, it's very important for it to be treated properly otherwise you can develop chronic ankle instability. That can result in future ankle sprains, especially when walking on uneven surfaces. The medial and lateral malleoli are the prominences on the inside and outside of your ankle. The lateral (outside) malleolus is a part of the fibula. An avulsion fracture can occur when a ligament pulls away taking a piece of bone with it. They can do surgery to reattach the ligament. If it's not an avulsion fracture then you probably fractured the head or neck of the lateral malleolus. I would recommend that you do a little online research on ankle anatomy and ankle fractures so that you understand what the doctor is saying. Treatment options include immobilization (like a walking boot or having your ankle casted), an ankle brace and surgery. You probably have some ligament damage due to the degree of the sprain. In my opinion, you want the treatment option(s) that will give you the best long term result.
