I mentioned it tonight at the club meeting. I have family coming into town next week for the Christmas holiday. I told them we could go on a snow run. So we will be taking the Jeeps out into the snow for the day. We will either go Saturday the 22nd or Sunday the 23rd. We will probably pick based on which day gives us the best turnout. If you are interested and would like to go post up and let me know.

Its looking like Saturday night. So it would be a snow night run. 🙂 We did this last year. We are looking at a trail just a tad out of Grass Valley. Its one of the trails they run for WInter Fest. I have a friend in Grass Valley and he may have another rig or two coming. Probably look at heading toward Grass Valley at 5p. Hit the trail by 6:30 wheel for a few hours and be headed back down the mountain before midnight. I may need a seat or two depending on if my Black Jeep is back from LA by then.

Snow run was great! We had 4 rigs in the final count. The snow was about 2-3 feet deep lots of fresh powder. Only one time did anyone get really stuck that required winching. The Jeep handled very well. We had a front end shimmy on the way home that caused me to pull over and take a look. The snow had packed in behind the brake rotors in the rim and the extra weight was causing the issue. Cleaned out the snow and drove home with no issues.
For those that are looking for a place to go I recommend where we went. Its not terribly far and the trail was untouched and wide so multiple vehicles can break trail. The trail starts at roughly Pike, CA. To get there from Sac head through Grass Valley and get on HWY 49 toward Downieville. About 15 miles up that road you will take Ridge Rd to the right. Stay on Ridge road for 8 miles until you reach Pike, CA. At that intersection turn left and then right within 100ft and that is the trail head. We followed the trail for 8 miles unti it branched at OHV road 98. At this point it was getting too deep and late to keep going.

I could be talked into going back during the holidays if anyone is interested. If you stay on the road we were on you eventually run into meadow lake and ultimately 89. I believe it to be another 20 miles past the 8 we did. It would be awesome to take a group all the way through. It would take a good amount of gas as your slow going for what would be a 30 mile snow run with untold depths. We used a half tank to get from Grass Valley to where we turned and around and back down. Assuming you were full at Grass Valley and had an extra 5 gallons you should be fine to go all the way across with extra in case you got 20 miles in and had to turn around.
