Thanks to all for a great day. Seems like everyone I have ever seen in the club was there today. A great time was had by all. The food was fantastic. Thank you all for putting up with my girls.
I definitely had a big time even though I got stuck twice, not counting the whole "sliding backwards/downhill on black ice while in Park" thing, I think I needed to shake out my shorts after that incident.
Special thanks to Dave and Brad for pulling me out of my "temporarily immobile" situations.
My trip down the hill was mostly uneventful. There were a lot of people/vehicles headed up. There was a big patch of black ice with several sedan / SUV vehicles that were all jacked up and sliding around with kids who didn't appear to know what they were doing trying to winch them around. It looked like a disaster.
Overall big fun and the Suburban absolutely needs new tires, the ones I have are worn and didn't grab the snow for shit.

For those of us who couldn't make it, what happened to John and Family?
Correct me if I'm wrong... From what I heard Brad and family hit the black ice and did a 360. In trying to avoid hitting them John and family slid, the hillside grabbed their Jeep, and they flopped onto their side.

I hung back at the camp fire once we heard that the road was closed. There was a Tacoma that was parked and talking with us who was the only rig of 8 who had made it back in 3 hrs. A few of them made it after being pulled out by Jeff and others at Posse Towing Service. When Jeff went to hook up to the next guy in their group he said they were fine likely out of some Toyota pride and a hatred of ram trucks. We sat by the fire and BSd for another hour before their leader aired down and headed back up the trail. By this time we had been clued in that there we missing snowmobilers. Another hour by the fire and we started to hear someone screaming for help a ways down the hill. Girlfriend of missing snowmobilers was getting hysterical and screaming. The two remaining toyotas and I went down the hill. 3 of us split up and agreed to walk a ways down the 3 ways snowmobile track led off from the location. I pulled up my phone and saw the track I was following was level on the Topo map so I drove in previous tire tracks about a mile until the snowmobile tracks turned around. When I got back the rest of the toyotas were free and one of the Toyota guys sent out had reported from a portable Ham that the snowmobilers had been found. They had gotten stuck trying to climb back up a hill around 11am and finally decided to hike out around 4:30pm and weren't found until 8pm. They were exhausted so I gave them food while one of the Toyota guys wife's calmed the girlfriend. The F350 with chains towing the empty snowmobile trailer made slow progress down the hill and had to stop 4 times to fix chains each time with the boyfriend being more exhausted and agitated. Finally around 9:15 we rolled onto the dam to pull chains off and air up. At this point the girlfriend walked over and asked if I could give her a ride to her truck. I said yes and proceed to air up my tires. She went back to help pull chains off the truck and a talking turned to screaming. I quickly finished airing up and rolled alongside them with the window down. Seeing they had an audience she hopped back into the truck and he quickly finished pulling the chains off, said thank you for the help, and then drove off. At this point my tired brain put together that her asking for a ride when I first pulled up might have been a clue as to what was happening. I pulled up to the stop sign at the end of Mormon imagrant just in time to see him slam on the brakes about 50 yards from the corner and push her out of the truck. I picked her up and then headed the other direction on sly park rd towards Placerville. When we got to placerville she calmed down enough to talk about what happened and called and booked a room in Folsom where she could get a ride from a friend in the morning. What I gather happened was he couldn't handle her hysteria after being left alone in a truck all day. It escalated to him threatening to pull over and get the gun out of the back before she finally said to stop and let her out.
I did his contact info and an approximate GPS location of the stuck snowmobiles which based on the maps would be a super easy recovery as there is a level road 100yds downhill of their location. However given the details how the rest of last night went I have opted to not get involved nor involve the Posse in a recovery.

Other than the accident with John (and his family) I thought it was a good day yesterday. The weather was very nice, warm even. The food was delicious and plentiful. The road traffic was pretty easy to manage from the information booth we had set up. I went on the second snow run. It was fun with the occasional strap needed to free "temporarily immobilized" vehicles. The snow was pretty deep. In some areas, my F150's doors were pushing snow when I opened them. The uphill after we turned around was where it got challenging. Lots of rigs needed to be strapped out (myself included). Thanks go to our rescue crew. We got word that John had rolled his rig with not much detail and were asked to get to him ASAP. Three of us headed down right away only to find emergency crews were on the scene and we could not do anything to help. Thanks Jeff B. for hauling my stuff back down from base camp, and to those who packed it all up. We all met back at the Subway and aired up. I took John and family home. Thanks Dave Gee for offering to help take them home. We are all very glad that nobody got hurt yesterday!

What a day for sure! Paula and I learned a great deal on our first snow run. Too much to list here but I will mention a few high notes... I learned what it is like to be in the middle of a push me pull you up a hill in the snow... Strap from the front of our rig to Jeff R's and Strap in the back to Daves JK... Pulling hard and being pulled hard... Wow... As far as I am concerned Jeff R pulled 2 JKU's up that hill single handedly and that's my story and I am sticking to it. Thanks Jeff! As it turned out Dave and I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time on that hill by ourselves on the way in... I even had an opportunity to use my winch for the first time when we both got stuck. So that is what that thing on my front bumper is for... Thanks Dave for sticking together with us and your patience. We were definitely in it to win it together. By the way my 19 year old son got our tow straps apart. I gave it to him when we got home and asked him to please separate the two straps while we unpacked the Jeep. I heard him hammering and pulling the knot and it finally came apart. He youtubed it... Kids these days... I will give you your strap at the next meeting or sooner if you need it.
Most importantly thanks to all the good people in this club that make it all possible. We are all in it together and nothing is more important than the safety and well being of our Posse family and those around us! We all have a lot to be very thankful for! Paula and I are so glad that John and his family got home safe.
What an ordeal Kris! I am glad you made it home safe.
A big thank you also goes out to the Chefs and all the folks that brought food! Lunch was great! I will ask Paula to post her recipe for the peanut butter chocolate bars for those few of you like "Gil" that seemed to enjoy them. However Gil, I am not sure if they really are guacamole infused bars... Lol...
Take care everybody!
