❓ I believe in 2010 the dates were in February and March. If there is no snow to speak of in January, would we pick up another date?
This being the Sierras that we're speaking of, I can see no snow on January 7th ... or 6' over a single weekend between now and then.

There is snow, and lots of ice currently. You just move the checkpoint up and down the road based on snow/ice level. There is almost always some snow somewhere on the road in January. It goes over 7K feet in elevation.

My coffee hadn't taken effect yet. You'd think that someone who'd camped and hiked in the Sierras for 10+ years would know that, huh?

One year our club needed modified rigs just to get to the checkpoint. We set up there and watched people drive through at 40 MPH.. some drivers have no brains.
Maybe our club should do "yellow bandana" events at each road patrol? We're up there anyway and it could make the club an extra $50 or so each day! That would buy a pizza party at a club meeting!!!

I'm not familiar with "yellow bandana" events? Are those informative type activities for conservation and advocacy?

Thanks
It's kind of like hanging out in the parking lot after the meetings. We stand around, eat, make snowmen, have snowball fights, ride sleds, etc., when we're not too busy counting vehicles passing by. Usually some of the group will head out for a short snow run. We'll be taking snow shoes and going for a hike too.
I plan to be there for the 1/7 date but the February date falls on my on-call weekend so I won't make it then.
