I had to tow him out once . . . in 2WD.
Yeah, it got real slick on our way out. 😯
You guys in the up the hill group missed the real fun stuck fest. George pulled into the kiosk area, got stuck. Eric and I decided that while we were figuring out where you guys were, it was time for some red neck sledding (tow strap + tarp = safety first!). Unfortunately Eric was stuck so we hooked him up to the 4Runner. I decided it would be fun to pull his Jeep before he was in it. Unfortunately, as soon as the strap tightened, the 4Runner sunk and I was stuck. Good thing Alex as on his way down. He showed up, hooked up to Eric and got stuck. At that point, with 4 rigs stuck right next to each other, we decided that we'd better air down. 20 lbs of air later we were all free, but it was quite a mess for a while. 😀

i should of went with my gut and tried to get bender unstuck first but whatever. i had fun getting stuck. isnt that what the snow is about anyway? getting stuck and hanging out with friends? I just want to say that i was real dissapointed that there were so many yahoo's out on that road this weekend. seems to me that its getting worse. i counted at least 8 vehicles doing at least 40mph right by us when we were waiting for the rest of the group to show up. the idiots in the red mini blazer with the windows broke out wearing ski googles and crash helmets sumed it up for me. accident waiting to happen. i hate to be a party pooper but i didnt feel safe driving around up there. i doubt i'll go back there anytime soon. sorry. 🙁

I can't say I blame you much. It was a little better further up the road where there wasn't as much traffic. However, I always worry when my kids are playing near that road. People have no consideration for others.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

i forgot to mention that i sufferd some damage on the run. i went to get into the 4runner and slammed my right elbow into my turn signal lever and broke the thing right off!!! apparently the damaged i caused forced my highbeams to be on all the time so it was probably a good idea that i went home before it got too dark. i would of felt bad to those i would of blinded with my highbeams on. anyway, on the way back after visiting howdy i decided to call folsom lake toyota and they told me that the part i broke was a "combination switch". apparently the headlight/turn signal switch is connected to a big plastic box mounted on the steering column which is then connected to the other lever on the other side which controls the wiper blades! anyway long story short they quoted me 350 bucks for the part. 😯 i gotta go. i have a meeting. i will continue my story when i get back.

OfflineThat sounds familiar with the part quote. I needed a couple window switches for the drivers panel and Toyota told me the whole panel had to be bought with new switches and that panel was over $200. I told him how the switches just unplug and pop out of the panel and all I want are 2 switches. He said it didn't work that way, so I took off. I ended up buying the switches off ebay for 99 cents a piece. It cost me more in shipping than for the part itself.
Keep your eye on Craigslist. I have picked up a lot of stuff off guys parting out 4runners. I have literally got hundreds of dollars of parts for about $40.

OfflineToyota quoted me over $1000 for some Tacoma parts I needed. I got everything from a new wrecking yard in Rancho for $180 total, and I got some floor mats in that price that weren't in the quote.
Then, I went back to the wrecking yard looking for some rear shocks and was quoted $90 each for used billstein shocks. I just bought them new for $92 total for 2.
Shop before buying!

OfflineWarning, this is an old thread from 2008.
Does anyone have anything they would like to add to the late write up on the main site?
