I heard the race is not very spectator friendly, is that true?
Depends on what you consider friendly. Basically you pick a spot on the trail (usually the hardest spot), and watch them crawl over each other. I went two years ago and we sat at backdoor all morning and then waited for the racers to come. I had a blast sitting in one spot watching them crawl over each other, but thats just me.

Kind of like watching NASCAR. High speed accidents while your car is safely in the garage.

This seemed like a pretty good clip to me.

I've never sat around Little Sluice watching guys drive through it all day. Instead, I drove my own rig through it.
I've never sat around the Hammers watching guys drive through it all day. Instead, I drove my own rig through it.
I've watched one rock crawling event (Donner), I spent the whole time saying, "I wish I could drive my own rig through it."
I guess I'm not much of a spectator when it comes to stuff I could be doing myself.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I went to one rock crawling event at Donner ski ranch and thought it was pretty fun. Some of the rigs were cool but this was "back in the day" when you got to watch an 8-wheel samurai and other different rigs. Today they all look alike and are all 100K, unless you watch class-restricted rigs.
Though I never made the hammers my single time through little sleuce before they blew it up was memorable.

So I was in LA yesterday picking up the Black Jeep and decided before I drove back to Sac to hit the KOH. All I can say is WOW! There is so much going on there, so many vendors, Jumbo Trons, RVs everywhere. It is really awesome. I am definately making plans to come back next year for a few days. You can drive a car up to Hammer Town no problem so anyone can go, any vehicle can get you there. I had a lot of driving ahead of me so I didn't stay long, but I will be coming back next year for sure.
