I am planning on heading out to the Rubicon this Friday morning, and coming back Sunday. Sorry for the very late notice, but if anyone wants to come along they are welcome. I imagine it will be quite cold (especially at night), so plan accordingly if you are going to camp. Not sure how far through we'll get depending on the snow, but I hope to get in far enough for my work cell phone to not work, and to camp at a lake and do some fishing.

Rayzor - We are planning to leave my place in Rancho Murieta at 9:30AM on Friday. If you want we can meet at Peets Coffee in Eldorado Hills ~10AM, as I'm sure I'll want coffee for the road. If you are at the meeting tomorrow we can make plans then.
BKGM - Thanks for the warning. I was hoping that we would miss the snow, but having never been out there this time of year I wasn't sure what to expect. I think there is a good chance that we will only go in part way to at least the lakes to camp, and hopefully hook a few Golden trout. If nothing else, this could turn into a good story of what not to do, that you can present to the club (along with my snow wheeling debacle on Mormon Immigrant).

Just remember that the trail runs downhill once you get past little sluice and then uphill from the springs out Cadillac. That means you could end up with icy conditions and no way out, so be careful.

Survived my first trip on the Rubicon. We got as far as the top of Little Sluice, and decided not to go in farther since we were by ourselves. We set up camp at the bottom of Sluice, and hung out for a few days. I unintentionally ended up going down most of Sluice after taking a wrong turn from Spider Lake, and quickly found out that a 4" lift and 35's is far from adequate. I did make it through though with minimal damage. overall, an amazing trip. Can't wait to go back...hopefully with other people next time.

Days were nice, probably mid 70's. Night however was freezing, dipping into the low 30's. There was very little snow on the trail until we hit Little Sluice, beyond that the snow got pretty deep. That's why we stopped there. I talked to one guy coming out that tried to make it to Rubicon Springs, and he said the snow was too deep to go any further than Buck Island Lake.
