I am itching to get out on a trail for a day trip. Does anyone know of a trail up Hwy 80 or a little north of that, that may still be open and accessible to stock rigs? Would be fun to go with the group.

So my goal between Christmas and New Years is to get my MetalCloak ball joints installed and swap out my front brake rotars and pads. Then take the rig for a run.

I believe the seasonal road closures start 1/1 so you'd be looking for something paved and unplowed for your excursion.  I am not a winter Hwy 80 side expert unfortunately.

Sadly I don't know how to drive mountain roads very well yet, so I can't be of any help.

Jeff shared some information about Lowell Hill Rd from Dutch Flat to Hwy 20 near Emigrant Gap. Would certainly feel better prepared if he was to join, but if we start at the bottom then we can always turn and head back the same way if needed. Probably my single biggest concern is having a group experienced enough with recovery that if someone gets stuck, we can help get each other out.

If we can get some people who are experienced at recovery and this type of run, might be a reasonable learning experience.

With all the rain, I would expect most trails to be snowed out or extremely muddy and slippery.  My only suggestion would be Prairie City SVRA for some local fun.  Another run I have been on is Shrttail Canyon that is off US 80 around Colfax, which is super easy, would not even require 4 wheel drive or any lift.

Definitely is a developing topic, with no sure answers. If it is foul weather and the mountains are a "No Go", I may go take a look around the Clay Pits by Oroville.

Looking at the weather, and I still need to get my brakes finished, I don't think this run is going to happen.
