There has been talk of doing an overnight or possibly at two night Rubicon trip. This would be a good opportunity for first timers who want to have a slower paced run and for those who just want to spend time on the trail and do some relaxing in addition to some wheeling. I would like to try to get the ball rolling and get something scheduled on the calendar so that people can plan for it and schedule time off, if necessary. Who would prefer an overnight run and who would prefer a two night run? My thought would be to start a two night run on a Thursday or a one night run on a Friday. Another option might be to have two groups, group A two nights and Group B for one night. Group A could start on Thursday and camp at say Buck Island and then be met up by Group B on day two (Friday?) and then wheel together and camp at Rubicon Springs for the second night. Once we get a head count we can make a reservation at Rubicon Springs. What do you all think? And what dates might be good, being sure to avoid any major events that are planned for the trail? Lastly, who would like to lead the group(s) so we have a leader(s) who are comfortable with that role?

I am fine with a single overnight camping trip preferably middle of the week to avoid the masses

Here is the link to the Rubicon Trail Calendar for big groups: https://calendar.google.com/ca.....os_Angeles

July to Mid August is the busiest time for big groups who go through. Last week in July and first week in Aug have the trail closed for the Jamborees who get parade permits.

If my LJ is legal again by then I would be willing to lead a group.

We may be interested in a single night, but as always, it depends on the date(s). I 2nd the motion to avoid the crowds, especially "groups".

I'd be in for a two nighter, i much prefer a slow crawl over a one day marathon.

I'm very interested depending on the dates (later is better) and if I can get my new to me 1st Gen ready in time. Itd be my first time running it, so a nice and easy, slow trip with some experienced folks would be awesome.

I'd love to do this run. I think a one night would be good, but am not opposed to 2 nights if that's what the majority wants. I've never run the Rubicon but have wanted to.

It's an awesome trip if you can put it in low and cruise.  Two nights sounds awesome, it's been about twenty years since I have driven all the way through.

Thanks for posting the calendar Kris, it is very helpful. Looking at the calendar it appears that August 22nd through the 24th might work for a Thursday through Saturday run in August. It seems like we may have enough interest in both the two night and one night runs to make the group A (two nights) and group B (one night) format work. Another date option would be Thursday September 12th through Saturday the 14th. I'm fine with either of these two dates. Please post up if one or both of these dates will work for those of you who are interested in going on this run. Once we set the date I will post it up on the calendar and start a new thread for the run with vehicle requirements and other information.

Thanks!

Whoops! Spoke too soon.  My fiance already bought tickets to a wine festival in Amador on September 14th. So that day doesn't work for me.

For me personally middle of July works the best due to soccer starting in August, but pick a week that works best for the group and I will try to make it work.  My girls keep talking about jumping off the dam at buck this summer.

September dates work for me. And, I'm definitely into a two nighter. My Rubicon is young but I'm not!

I'm going with the August Jeep Jamboree group for the first time through.  I signed up months ago. I didn't know the club was thinking about it until tonight.

The cub runs the rubicon a few times a year... most of the time it is a day trip, all the way through, with no camping. So pick your poison 🙂
