Tuesday, September 18.
This is a day run across the Rubicon. We have done several of these before.
Goal: Burger Lounge in south shore for food!
Meeting at the spillway between 830 and 9am. We will get on the trail before 9. I will go up through Georgetown so if you want to meet at the market there, let me know. I’ll gas up and get breakfast there.
Based on past experience, the following requirements are necessary to go:
Recovery and safety requirements listed on the club site will be enforced so be sure to do a check up with your vehicle.
35s and 2 lockers, or larger tires and 1 locker.
Ability to air yourself both down and up. You must air down for this run!
Post here if your planning to go so I know to look for you!

Finally home, safe and sound. I noticed my "frame" is cracking on both sides above the rear axle, I bent my rim at the end of the run enough that it was that it was leaking air at the bead (nothing a FBH couldn't fix), and got a bit of new rock rash a bunch of new squeaks I have to track down! But it was a GREAT way to spend aTuesday!

Thank you everyone for attending the run. Great day, perfect weather and no traffic.
‘I drove past Burger Lounge at 555 pm. I didn’t stop because I was trying to make it home before dark for safety reasons.
We learned that Range Rover does not equal trail rated! We saw several of them making extremely slow progress or parked because they had already broke down
failed air bags, broken drivelines and transmission issues were some of the problems the owners told me about.
Saw a Toyota 4 runner. It was also broke down. He destroyed his 3rd member. And was running front wheel drive.
For the day:
I arrived late to Georgetown and Justin had already called asking where I was. I told them to head up and I’d catch up. So we met at the spillway and got on the trail at 1040 am.
We hit spider lake in almost exactly 1 hour. But it took us almost 2 hours to get to buck island, where we stopped and ate. We made it to the springs in just under one hour.
On the entire trail we were not held up by any rigs. We crossed paths with multiple range rovers, a pair of jeeps, a UTV and an XJ.
We were off the trail by about 415.
In addition to everyone else’s updates, I broke a rear lower control arm/shock bracket. I’m unsure where/when it broke, and I could have run most or all of the trail with it hanging off. To get home I was able to strap the bracket back up and drive home slowly. That’s why I didn’t want to drive home after dark in case things went bad and I was stranded.
‘So I’m now needing to get that fixed plus some other related stuff.
Still a great day overall.

Had that happen to one of my roommate's XJs in college. Back then we had to DIY it. Now there are off the shelf solutions: https://www.ironrockoffroad.co.....ction.html
Also recommend stiffening the front and middle unibody sections, beefing up shackle and spring hangars, and if it wont impact the usability of the rig consider a roll cage. All will stiffen the structure and eliminate many of the squeaks, rattles, and groans of the unibody. Is flexing of the unibody is enough to crack the windshield?

I ordered a rear set from JcrOffroad. Will be here next week. I went with them as the whole set is 3/16 steel vs most others that are a combination of 3/16 and 10 gauge. I'll eventually do the whole thing, I imagine, but I'm always thinking about how much I want to shine this turd. Right now, I'm more likely to fix what breaks vs. building it up as a preventative measure anymore. The parts are not too bad, but I'll pay a bit for welding. A roll cage? I thought that's what the roof is for! As far as the windshield: I'd say anything is possible. Plus, I kind of beat it up on this run. The corners of this rig are starting to get rounded. My eye is on my next rig-one that has a frame and was intended for this kind of abuse. BTW, I finally saw the PM, Kris.
