Your attendance is requested on April 23rd in Sacramento!
On Thursday, April 23rd the California Water Quality Control Board is having a public hearing in Rancho Cordova to finalize their decision on closing the Rubicon Trail.
We are asking all NORA supporters within driving distance of Sacramento to attend this important public hearing. Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts need to show the Water Board the overwhelming public support to keep the Rubicon Trail open year-round. NORA’s goal is to have over (500) OHV enthusiasts present at this public hearing.
This is serious. On April 1st the United States Forest Service issued a 2-year temporary closure of the very popular Tellico OHV Area in North Carolina. Help Rubicon from turning into a Tellico type situation, by showing your support on April 23rd.
Assemblyman Ted Gaines and a representative from Congressman Tom McClintock’s office will be in attendance. Local Sacramento news media will also be covering this historic event.
Please call or email Erin Lara, Member Services Director at NORA to let her know if you are able to attend as we are trying to obtain a head count. She can be reached at (530) 333-1487, ext. 1 or [email protected].

I thought the talk was of closing the trail for only winters! Is this post correct that they are speaking of a full closure? Why would the water quality board have a say on closing a county road?
Sorry for being a dissbeliever, but I would have expected a lot more publicity for such a major closure.

there was a good turn out , but i thought there would be more. its hard for people to take off work.
i think i left the meeting at 530, and it was still going when i left! its so obvious the the inviro nazi's are using whatever means possible to close the trail, not because of any real threat to the water from sediment, oil spills, or poop(which is about the only thing that has any merritt)its because the hate they have for 4x4's and the people who drive them. they had a a line up of experts to try to support there agenda, but or side did really well defending and rebutting. we will see what happens. as soon as i walked in the room you could see who was who. boy what a bunch of Berkley looking waco's. and i know i worked in Berkley on and off for 30 years. there a tons of places that they can hike in there sandals, why cant we have this trail? there is going to be some damage to the trail. so what, its not enough to hurt anything long term and the friends of the Rubicon have done a lot to fix problems as they occurr. God gave this earth for us to use as we see fit ,and if we want to spin or tires some times i say go for it! as long as we dont ruin it for others. sorry for the rant. this is the last trail in elerado still open for winter use.

After reading that summary I think I'm going to go run my chainsaw for a couple of hours. It's hard to believe that people can see things so onesidedly. I fully consider myself an environmentalist. I want people to be able to enjoy the outdoors for generations to come and I'll do what needs to be done to protect them. The extremeists just blow my mind.
Thanks for going. I'm glad we had some representation.

its pretty madining, we need more people in government to support our interests. i guess when it comes to voting on the local ballot we need to do research to weed out the waco's. thats how they get there way, by getting involved at that level. when i was in the ibew thats what the union office did to keep control of the work share. passing laws prevailing wages, etc.
