I spoke with Kyle this morning and we will be able to put on a class and recert for chain saw use. Please let me know if you are interested in attending. The first class will be in March and sounds like will will need to put on a second one depending on how many people are interested. Let me know sooner then later.

I don't have any formal saw training so I'm not sure it would be the right class if it is a recert class. Do I need a Cert class first or is this the same thing? If it is open to non-club members I would be interested.

If the class is for first time certification also, I am in.  I have not been certified yet, but your post makes it sound like it is only for recertification.

So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

The full class will be offered, it would be two full days for the class. The second day would be the actual cutting day. For the folks recreating if would just be the one day.

What are the odds that we will be able to do any maintenance on our "trial" this year? If we can't access the trail then the only benefit of the class would be if we help another club with trail maintenance. Hell Hole could really use some trimming or maybe we can help the Highlanders with the Barrett Lake trail. I bet both these trails will need a lot of work due to the snow storm in December.

Last time we did it they required boots, gloves, chainsaw chaps, long sleeve shit, pants (no shorts!), helmet, eye protection, hearing protection and a saw. Am I forgetting anything anyone?

You can get a helmet with a face shield and hearing protection like this: qid=1645368973&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A2ZSTDEXO9VTZF&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExSUk0RVpJODZGWlcwJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDQ4MzUwMzYwUE5OQUpCMTlaNiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzExMzcwMVFYTlY3N0xGUTFYVCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

I bought these good chaps: qid=1645369119&sr=8-6&th=1

But here is a more economical set that includes helmet and gloves (make sure it complies with their requirements): https://www.chainsawsdirect.co.....zIQAvD_BwE

Chris, before they issue your cert, you’ll need to have gone through a first aid/CPR certified class. In the past, you could go through the sawyers class without it, they just wouldn’t issue the cert until you present the FA card.

Please add me to the recert portion.  I will try to get my first aid prior to the class but it depends on availability.

I have the required equipment as well, though my Husky chaps aren't as attractive as Jeff's).

Thanks!

Brad

Hahaha Brad!

If anyone is buying chaps here are the Forest Service chap and other PPE requirements per the below website link:

Chaps or cut-resistant pants for
chain saw use shall meet the
requirements of Forest Service
6170-4 or ASTM F-1897 (current
version). Chaps shall overlap
boots by at least 2”

Thanks, nice to know! I guess I should have asked you first & got an insight in chap fashion.

The class will be held March 12-13. First Aid and CPR is needed for the class, as well as your own PPE. Please send me a text if you want the full class or the refresher 530-391-9573. As far as maintenance runs, as soon as we are given permission we will be up on the trail.

First aid card is not a problem.  Just don't have all the proper ppe like I used to when I was in the forest service.  Probably won't make this class.  Multiple kids playing comp soccer and another doing gymnastics has gotten expensive.  New gear is not in the budget.

I got my equipment now, just need to figure out CPR and First Aid. I have my Healthcare Provider CPR & AED certification from 2011, it does not show an experation just recommended renewal date of 2013. I see lots of First Aid online courses but they all say you need to attend a in person class within 90 days to be OSHA certified. I can't find anything that states what the forestry service requires, it just says CPR and First Aid.

Anyone know the specific requirement? If I can qualify with online, I am in, but in person will make me have to bail on it, just not enough time for that right now.

1. Perhaps someone can lend PPE in order to get certified (you can always borrow or purchase in the future but certification classes don't come up very often)

2. Last time I did my CPR and first aid online and it was accepted.

X2 here!  I have my First Aid Cert now as well (and my saw tested), so I'm ready to go!
