Shake Down Run

Larry just got his Jeep back from the Doctors and wants to go for a bit of a shakedown run. We figure dirt roads are better than Praire City. 😀 We're going to meet in Grass Valley around 8:15 on Sunday 6/1. We'll probably head up 20 toward Washington. I'm not sure what to expect, but it'll probably mostly be dirt roads with some snowy spots. All are welcome.

We're meeting at the Flyers on Brunswick. From Auburn take 49 to Grass Valley. Go through Grass Valley and take the Brunswick Exit. Turn right and the gas station is about a block down on your right.

Post here or send me a PM if you're interested so we're sure to wait for you.

Justin and I shook down little bit of Fordyce trail today. We went in to the first river crossing and returned back toEagle Lakes area. There was some interesting off-camber spots. On the way back up from the river, I decided to stretch my new winch cable out, and even though is was steel, it did the job nicely.

Glad you guys had fun and got home safely.

The water looks really low! Were there a lot of people on the trail? We saw a couple of folks.

Damn, i cant wait to get up there! 😀 Cool pics Tom. Did you get any of the off camber spot with the cliff to the left? I think it is sunrise hill, not sure. Its like 4 miles in i think. Its just after this spot. Probably looks a little different now though.

We saw a group of 5 or six down at the river. There were about 8 tow rigs at the staging area. 2 of them had broken windows.

Justin took some pictures of me on the off camber spot you are talking about. The trail has no snow there, but water is runing down the road in many spots.

Here are some pictures of Tom from yesterday. I didn't get many because we were hustling along and didn't make many stops.

Here is "the ledge" that scares the heck out of me but didn't phase Tom. 😡

Here is Tom spooling up his winch after pulling himself out of a pickle.

It was a good day. Larry's jeep did well, but he's got some driveline angle issues to take care of. He went with ARBs front and rear and new gears. Plus, they took care of some things that weren't done right the first time around.

I hate my new powersteering pump. My leaky old pump worked better at an idle than this one. It's ok if you rev the engine. I'll probably pull it and return it after Fordyce this weekend.

It was also good to get out and check out some of the TNF since the should have their Route Designation info out this summer. 🙄

Glad you guys had a good day also, but too bad about your power steering pump. Did you go with a rebuilt from Riebies?

On your pump, you might try a smaller pulley. I had to do that with my system to get the low end RPMs I needed for the pump. I went from a 5 1/4 to a 4 1/2 pulley wheel.

It's a stock replacement - rebuild for Reibes. It bugs the heck out of me that my old pump worked so well - it just leaked. It should have been a bolt in replacement. 🙁

It was so relaxing on Sunday I almost forgot to take pictures. I think I got one or two. I will try and remember my camera tomorrow.
