Never mind, I found it...
"Slate Mountain Road begins north of Placerville near Finnon Reservoir. The graded dirt road is not suitable for passenger vehicles because of several rough, uneven sections interspersed with the smoother sections. Special Attractions: Slate Mountain Fire Lookout; Access to a network of 4WD, ATV, and motorbike trails; Cool shady, forest drive in Eldorado National Forest. High-clearance 4WDs are preferred, but any high-clearance vehicle is acceptable. Expect a rough road surface; mud and sand are possible but will be easily passable. You may encounter rocks up to 6 inches in diameter, a loose road surface, and shelf roads, though these will be wide enough for passing or will have adequate pull-offs."
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I don't know....My neighbor wants to go to the fire lookout. He has a bone stock Ford f150 4x4 small tires and everything. All I know is my wife is throwing a bridal shower at our place this saturday the 28th and I need to be as far away as possible form all the clucking. At least I won't be sweating breaking anything.....but now that I said that something will break haha!
Anyone wants to join for a super leisurley trail ride, feel free to join us. If your interested let me know and we can arrange a mtg spot. Probably be some nice photos form the fire lookout.

So this turned out to be a good trip! We went Saturday around 8am looking forthe trail. Mosquito road basically starts in the center o fplacerville and winds its way down the canyon tothe south fork of the american river. Problem is the bridge is out and the road is blocked....... So we had to fins out way around we went up 193 and took the ridge road that follows the other side ofthe river. Great views and shome nice pictures! We met back up with mosquito road onthe other side which deteriorates into a very dusty dirt road! We followed that dusty road to the look out onslate mountain you can see the whole valley from there. We planned to folow the road more up to stumpy meadows, but then decided to shortcut the trip because from out map it looked like many of the gates would be closed. Good choice when we finally hit wentworth springs road we went towards stumpy meadows to check the gates...LOCKED haha! Since we were up there we cruised up icehouse to the rubicon for a quick little trip along Loonlake and into the beginning of the trail and then turned back,it was late and I didn't want to spend the nite on the trail. All in all we explored some not very often travelled forest roads and had a fun day in the woods.
