Looks like rain Saturday and snow at camp overnight & on the trail Sunday. I am debating, I’m not really set up for snow camping.

I'm sad that I won't make this run this year. Unfortunately it is the same weekend as the Hope Valley Fall Leaf run that I do with the Foresthill Four Wheelers. Last year worked out perfectly because the runs were on consecutive weekends so Kathy and I were able to spend a week plus in the Sierra in our trailer and I was able to participate in both runs while Kathy sat out the Slick Rock/Deer Valley run. Hopefully next year we can schedule it so I don't have a conflict as the Hope Valley run is one of the few runs that I can get Kathy to go along with me because it isn't a "scary" run.

I want to make sure that you are aware of the current campfire conditions for your run, which I do every year for us on this run. Hermit Valley is in the "low" zone on the Stanislaus Forest Service map (link here): https://www.fs.usda.gov/sites/.....923%20.pdf  As a result, you are permitted to have a campfire at the Hermit Valley campground provided you have a valid campfire permit. Campfire restrictions are in effect in the "moderate" zone but this will not apply to you. Here is the Forest Service order that contains the link to the above map for your information: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r05/st.....-temporary

I wish I could join you but since I can't, I hope this information makes you comfortable knowing that you can legally have a campfire as it typically gets very cold there this time of the year. Have a great and safe trip and be sure to get your campfire permits which are required for propane fire pits and stoves as well as for wood and charcoal fires! Link for campfire permits: https://permit.preventwildfiresca.org/

Sorry to hear that Brad and Kathleen are not going to make Deer Valley this year. Thanks Jeff for the fire permit reminder. Sorry to see that you’re not making this run too.

Is anyone camping Friday night? I'm still trying to figure out weather I'll come on Friday or Saturday.

Um...what?

I have a pile of parts for new leaf springs on garage floor... just need a few hours of wrenching to get everything back together and tested out. Still hoping to make Friday night camping through Sunday Deer Valley run ... but still a game time call (stupid day job taking up time I could be doing hobbies LOL).

October 11 - October 12

Run location and date: Slick Rock Saturday October 11th and Deer Valley Sunday October 12th.
Format: This will be a one night trip, or you can run either of the two trails and make a day trip out of it.
Slick Rock Saturday October 11th If you are heading up on Saturday, meet at the McDonalds in Angles Camp (33 N Main St, Angels Camp) at 8:00 a.m. and plan to leave by 8:30 a.m. Top off gas in Arnold. We will run Slick Rock from south to north and then head to Hermit Valley Campground and camp their Saturday night.
Deer Valley Sunday October 12th we will plan to start the run at 9:00 a.m. If you plan to run Deer Valley only, then please be at Hermit Valley Campground no later than 9 a.m. or come up Saturday and camp with our group the night before. Deer Valley trailhead is accessed through and begins at Hermit Valley campground. Here is a link for Hermit Valley Campground on Hwy 4: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare…..ecid=14847
This run is open to members and non-members provided they meet the usual club minimum standards and ideally 35″ or greater tires and one locker. If you aren’t sure, please ask. If you are running both trails, please be sure you have sufficient fuel. You may need to bring extra fuel depending on your rig. I believe there is gas at Kirkwood but it’s probably best to bring it.

Just a quick reminder this run is coming up this weekend. Also, we may experience a little wet weather definitely going to be cold. Please be prepared if you are not going to make the run or something changes please post up so I know who to expect thanks

I obtained a camping permit for Saturday night.  Hopefully some of you can bring up some wood or a means to cut wood when we are there.  I'll bring what I can fit in the Jeep.  See you guys in a few days.

Dale, we have an unexpected visit from Lynda's family this Saturday from Texas & will have to reluctantly bail from the Deer Valley run. Just checked the National Weather Service at Hermit Valley Campground & the forecast calls for rain & snow from Friday to beyond Sunday. So be alert & more importantly, enjoy. I apologize for this last minute change.

I've been following the thread and sincerely hoping I could join y'all on this run again. Well, I'm super bummed out about it but think I'm going to stay home this time. At the end of August I slipped on the ice (Curling) and smacked my head enough to have frequent bouts of vertigo. I'm better but more concerned with triggers on the drive up and back than on the trail.

On the off chance I feel like taking the plunge, last minute, could I join you or catch up with you at some point? I would reply here if I can and I think I've got your club frequency in my radio.

Cheers!

So I didn’t know what we were doing with the Foresthill club but I found out today that we are running Deer Valley on Saturday. Have fun on your run.

Hey Dale, Greg and I are camping Friday night at the Slick Rock trailhead (south end by Utica reservoir), so don't wait for us in Angels Camp!

That is correct. We are going to attempt to camp at the first bridge crossing by the creek.

Greg, Kathy and I brought the trailer and the Jeep up on Wednesday. We are camped in Hope Valley. I don't think she will go for running the trail two days in a row. I'm actually surprised that she is going to go on Saturday (at least I think she is going to go). Also, we need to get home on Sunday so that would be a long trip with the trailer (she drives the truck/trailer) and I drive the Jeep.

Just a heads up to you and your group, NOAA is showing an overnight low of 19 degrees in Hope Valley on Friday so be prepared for some very cold weather.

Jamie said we could cuddle if it got really cold.

I don't have the top on the jeep yet. I'm hoping I'm not making a mistake.
