I'm a solid maybe! Got a call today from WFO and my axle is in. He was shocked because the factory told him 3 to 4 months and the last one he ordered took 7 months. I drop my Jeep off on Monday the 26th so it should be done before this trip.
Exciting news! Do you need to do the 500 mile break in for the gears???

Yes, if it gets done in time for me to do a proper break in on the gears I will go. Will be a last minute call probably. If I get it back on the Wednesday before I should have time to do the recommended break in on Wednesday and Thursday.

OfflineAccording to the dealer last Friday, the E-Brake parts will not be in until the first to second week of October, so unless a miracle happens, the Jeep will not be ready for this coming Saturday Deer Valley run. So if nothing changes, count me out.
Have fun, be careful, report how it went & everyone got home safe...

This run is now posted on the calendar please go there for details thanks Dale
@Dale / everyone going Friday:
I am planning to meet you all at the trail head Friday morning at 930am. However I want to confirm the trail head location with you all ….
Do you consider the road starting on the west side of Sapps Hill (approx at 38.40882, -120.03791) as trail head?? (I have one tourist map that lists this as starting point - but I don’t think it is.)
or
Donyou consider the Google/MORR/various other sources starting point on the north west side of Utica Reservoir (approx at 38.4401082, -120.0075801) as the trail head? (This is the one I think it is and want to just confirm to make sure).
Thanks

Brian, I would consider the Utica Reservoir 38.4401082, -120.0075801 as the trail head if you asked me. Hopefully someone leading will confirm this for you.

Looking forward to it. We will be driving up Saturday and parking the trailer at the campground. Can anyone tell me approximately how long the deer valley run will be.
Plenty of parking at hermit valley campground. Just to the east of the campground is the trail head for deer valley. Its hard to judge how long the trail will take. Last time i was up there we were behind a train of rigs held up by a stock jeep gladiator. I think it was 6 hours on the trail. I think the trail from hermit to blue lakes should take 3.5 to 4 hours. You could probably do it with your rig in 2 hours

Well, I'm out. Jeep won't be done until tomorrow so I won't have time to break-in the gears. Have a great time and stay safe.
Bummer timing didn’t just work out. Was looking forward to your triumphant return
.
I agree with John - we will have to get a Signal Peak run (Signal Peak night run???) or something in before the snows to christen the new setup.

OfflineHi guys. Today I called the Calaveras Forest Service Ranger district office at (209) 795-1381 to check on campfire restrictions for you. There are currently no fire restrictions at Hermit Valley campground because it is in the low fire hazard zone. As a result, you are permitted to use gas or charcoal stoves and have fires in the ring fire pits. A campfire permit is required so be sure to get one if you plan to use a stove or build a fire. This is good news because I'm sure it will get cold at night and in the morning and because a campfire adds to the ambience of camping. There is no potable water and I can't remember if there is any water in the campground but there is a creek right across the highway should you need water to fully extinguish your campfire. Someone might want to bring a chainsaw so Roy doesn't have to chop wood! LOL
Link to campfire permits: https://www.readyforwildfire.o.....re-permit/
Link to fire restriction order: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Intern.....049134.pdf
The map of the fire restriction zones is hard to see in detail which is why I called to check. Feel free to call and verify for yourself if you want. I really wish my Jeep was ready because this is such a good pair of trails to run and because it is always so much fun due to the people involved. Have fun. I will be with you in spirit!
