Run location and date: Slick Rock Saturday October 5th and Deer Valley Sunday October 6th.
Format: This will be a one, two or three night trip depending on your preference, or you can run either of the two trails and make a day trip out of it..
I will be going up on Friday October 4th and camping at the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground at Utica reservoir. Let me know if you want to join me. Here is a link to the campground: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare.....8;actid=29
Slick Rock Saturday October 6th: If you are heading up on Saturday, meet at the McDonalds in Angles Camp (33 N Main St, Angels Camp) at 8:00 a.m. and plan to leave by 8:30 a.m. Top off gas in Arnold and then meet us at the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground at 10:00 a.m. We will run Slick Rock from south to north and then head to Hermit Valley Campground and camp their Saturday night.
Deer Valley Sunday October 7th: We will plan to start the run at 9:00 a.m. If you plan to run Deer Valley only, then please be at Hermit Valley Campground no later than 9 a.m. or come up Saturday and camp with our group the night before. Deer Valley trailhead is accessed through and begins at Hermit Valley campground. Here is a link for Hermit Valley Campground on Hwy 4: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare.....ecid=14847
This run is open to members and non-members provided they meet the usual club minimum standards and ideally 35" or greater tires and one locker. If you aren't sure, please ask. If you are running both trails, please be sure you have sufficient fuel. You may need to bring extra fuel depending on your rig. I believe there is gas at Kirkwood but it's probably best to bring it.

So far it looks like we have the following people's rigs on this run:
Saturday Slick Rock and Sunday Deer Valley
Me, Jeff Root (camping Friday and Saturday night)
Brian C. (arrival time/date currently unknown)
John MacD. (arrival time/date currently unknown)
Dale (camping Saturday only)
Roy and Romika (arrival time/date currently unknown)
Richard (Ski) (camping Friday and Saturday night)
Greg B. (maybe)
Sunday Deer Valley only, no camping:
Brad and Kathleen
Guy and Lynda
We need to work out the logistics for the different groups and rigs that will be going at different times.
Heading to Slick Rock Saturday October 5th: If you are heading up on Saturday, meet at the McDonalds in Angles Camp (33 N Main St, Angels Camp) at 8:00 a.m. and plan to leave by 8:30 a.m. Top off gas in Arnold and then meet us at the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground at 10:00 a.m. We will run Slick Rock from south to north and then head to Hermit Valley Campground and camp their Saturday night. We need someone to lead this group. Dale, can you lead them?
Heading to and camping at Hermit Valley Campground on Saturday for Sunday Deer Valley run only: Arrive at Hermit Valley your convenience. The Slick Rock group should get there sometime between 3 to 5pm, hopefully closer to 3.
Deer Valley Sunday October 6th: We will plan to start the run at 9:00 a.m. If you plan to run Deer Valley only, then please be at Hermit Valley Campground no later than 9 a.m. or come up Saturday and camp with our group the night before. I know I haven't been the most reliable person lately...It's my season of life with little rascals. But, I do hope to attend this run and camp on Friday with Jeff and run both trails. I had a ton of fun last year!
Most important is to be reliable for your family. Many of us have been there too! I updated the attendee list and put you down as a maybe. Hope you can make it. Maybe we will see you and your family on the trails more in the future.

My camping plans will probably change. Kathy and I will probably take our trailer up to the Blue Lakes area and camp their on Friday night before the run. If so, I will drive from the Blue Lakes area to the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground on Saturday morning. I would be coming through Markleeville and then west on Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass to Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground. For those camping on Friday night at Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground, I just wanted to give you a heads up that I may not be joining you on Friday. I will still be camping at Hermit Valley on Saturday night while my wife enjoys the comfort of our trailer at the Blue Lakes. After we run Deer Valley on Sunday, I will be staying at the Blue Lakes after our trip. Kathy and I want to spend time in the area and enjoy the fall colors. Last year we ran it a week later than we are this year and the fall colors were already past their peak, so hopefully this year we get some great fall colors to enjoy. Either way, these two trails are just beautiful that time of year regardless of what week we go.
The plan is to take our time on both trails, especially on Deer Valley, so no problem going slow Brad or anyone else who has a stockish vehicle. We will probably put Brian in the lead because he likes to wheel slow and because he does a great job leading a group on a run. I will be happy to be the tailgunner behind those who want to run towards the back.
