I cant take any days off but kyle wants us to patrol the trail so I will head up to Strawberry south on Saturday morning. I will set up at the corner of Strawberry and Buck Meadow dirtbike trail and hand out maps till y'all come through. I will have a signin sheet so we can get volunteer hours for the trip.
Sounds good.

I was thinking with how fast we will likely go through deer valley..what if we camped at lost lakes above blue lakes? We would just drive down blue lakes road and then it is a short dirt trail to the lost lakes. Not sure if any of you have ever been there but it is an awesome spot. Then the forestdale divide road takes us right down to 88.

So you're saying run the entire Deer Valley trail and then camp at Lost Lakes Friday night? I guess that is an option, especially if the good camping spots on Deer Valley are occupied. We could see how the day goes on Friday and if the group wants to camp at Lost Lakes then we could do that. Lost lake is the lake that a group of us went to after we ran Strawberry a few years back. It was a nice spot.

Yeah we could leave it open as an option depending on availability

I contacted the Calaveras USFS station today and there are no campfire restrictions at Hermit Valley Campground and on the Deer Valley 4X4 Trail provided you have a valid campfire permit. I don't know about Lost Lake. Does anybody know what Forest and Forest District Lost Lake is in so I can check on restrictions?

Awesome - I don't know about you guys but camp fires set the camping mood. I'll bring up as much wood as I can squeeze in the rig. I do have a permit.
Campfires are nice and a must when legal. And it will be near freezing in the mornings and may get cool at night, especially if you're up late partyingso a campfire might feel pretty good. I'm sure we can find wood near where we camp. I won't have room in my TJ for a chainsaw but if someone has room and can bring one that would be great. Also you can have a charcoal bbq which is also nice when camping. I will have a permit as well. I will also have blank liability waiver forms for those who have not signed one yet.

According to the recording I got when I called the Eldorado Forest Service office today, campfire restrictions are in effect for all of the Eldorado National Forest. That means that we will not be able to have a campfire or use charcoal cook fires on Friday night and Saturday morning if we are camping within the Eldorado National Forest. Does anyone know if the camping area at the second river crossing on Deer Valley is the Eldorado National Forest or the Stanislaus National Forest or which National Forest Lost Lakes is in?

The eldorado and Stanislaus National Forest boundaries meet shortly after hermit valley campground. So the second crossing is a ways into eldorado nat forest.

Interesting that you got this recording as there has been no forest order made public yet. Unless it just went into effect and hasn't made the rounds on the FS website Im thinking that recording may be mistaken. I have reached out to Kyle for clarification.

I would like to confirm who (what vehicles and a head count, if possible) are going and when. If you are not listed here but are going then please post up below.
1. Sloguy (John and girlfriend) Thursday Slick Rock only
2. Brian, Lonnie and a passenger Group A
3. Brain's friend in another vehicle Group A
4. Hypergreen Tonka (Roy and ?) Group A
5. Dale Clement Group A
6. Tyler Group B, meeting us at Hermit Valley Campground Friday morning
7. Me, Jeff_R Group A
The only unconfirmed either way is 74renegade (Mikey). All the rest who expressed interest have indicted they are in or out. Am I missing anyone?
The final plan is to camp at Hermit Valley on Thursday and Lost Lakes (we will have to take an indirect route due to a road closure) on Friday.
Thanks!
