Date: Slick Rock Saturday October 14th and Deer Valley Sunday October 15th.

Format: This will be a one night or a two night trip depending on your preference, or you can run either of the two trails and make a day trip out of it..

I will be going up on Friday October 13th and camping at the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground at Utica reservoir. Let me know if you want to join me. Here is a link to the campground: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare.....8;actid=29

Slick Rock Saturday October 14th: If you are heading up on Saturday, meet at the McDonalds in Angles Camp (33 N Main St, Angels Camp) at 8:00 a.m. and plan to leave by 8:30 a.m. Top off gas in Arnold and then meet us at the Sandy Flat/Rocky Point campground at 10:00 a.m. We will run Slick Rock from south to north and then head to Hermit Valley Campground and camp their Saturday night.

Deer Valley Sunday October 15th: We will plan to start the run at 9:00 a.m. If you plan to run Deer Valley only, then please be at Hermit Valley Campground no later than 9 a.m. or come up Saturday and camp with our group the night before. Deer Valley trailhead is accessed through and begins at Hermit Valley campground. Here is a link for Hermit Valley Campground on Hwy 4: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare.....ecid=14847

This run is open to members and non-members provided they meet the usual club minimum standards and ideally 35" or greater tires and one locker. If you aren't sure, please ask. If you are running both trails, please be sure you have sufficient fuel. You may need to bring extra fuel depending on your rig. I believe there is gas at Kirkwood but it's probably best to bring it.

Is anyone interested in doing a Slick Rock and Deer Valley run in October? Here is my proposal before we get something on the calendar:

Run Slick Rock on Friday October 6th and camp at the Deer Valley trailhead on Hwy 4 that night. Do an overnight trip camping on Deer Valley on Saturday October 7th. You can run one or both. I personally would camp on Thursday night at the Slick Rock trailhead but people that wanted to run it could also come up Friday morning (maybe on the trail by 9:30 am). People who can't get Friday off or who are only interested in running Deer Valley could meet us Friday night or Saturday morning to run Deer Valley on Saturday/Sunday or if they didn't want to camp could run the entire trail on Saturday. Please post up if interested and what your preferences would be. We could also considerer doing it   the following week October 13-15. I think we have done it the second week in October in the past.

As noted last night at the club meeting, I was talking to Jamie about (and tentatively planning on but forgot to post to forum & calendar) doing Slick Rock on Sat Oct 14, camping at Hermit Valley that night, then doing Deer Valley (and maybe Strawberry) on Sun Oct 15th. Although those dates dont work for all... they are a month out from the Sept. Barret Lake overnight which I thought made more sense than trying to stack them closer together. Regardless, my preference would be to do a Sat - Sun overnight so I could potentially participate in both days (Ill have just started a new job and wont have PTO for a new weekday commitment).

It sounds like the 14th and 15th are the best dates except for John. Should we lock in those dates and get this on the calendar so people can start planning?

No address but here is where it is located: https://www.google.com/maps/pl.....;entry=ttu

I think the campground is actually just to the west of the trailhead, not just to the east of it as shown on this map. The campground is visible from Hwy 4 on your left and there should be a sign on Hwy 4 for the campground. I think the trail on the map is the hiking trail and not the 4X4 trail.

On this satellite image you will see a creek and a meadow on the right side of the road opposite the campground. You will cross over the creek on a bridge about 1/4 or so before the campground. https://www.google.com/maps/pl.....;entry=ttu

Thanks.  It looks like 3 hrs to meet up from Folsom, including stopping for gas on the way.

Brad - I'm also doing Deer Valley & plan to drive up Sunday morning. I've done so last time as well, & know where the campground is. If we meet up, you can follow me there.

Thanks Jeff and Guy.  I am planning to make the "Day" deer valley portion of the run - 9AM at the campground or trailhead.  At this point I will be in a Red Bronco.

So I’m in for deer valley on Sunday. I’m going to head up the 14th and meet you guys at the campground.

Might leave early enough and try to find you guys along slick rock. We’ll see. May meet the wife and kid at Apple hill for a few hours so it’ll depend on that.

Either way I’ll see you all Saturday afternoon/ evening.

I’m in for both days, I can lead from Mc Donald’s to the trailhead at Slick Rock if needed.

I plan on attending one of the runs, either Slick rock or deer valley.

look forward to wheeling with you all, instead of getting winched up (by y’all) hill4 at Fordyce (Sierra trek).
