I’m in for both days, I can lead from Mc Donald’s to the trailhead at Slick Rock if needed.
Here is a map showing the location of the Rocky Point Campground where myself and potentially others will be camping on Friday October 13th and it also shows the location of the Southern Slick Rock trailhead where we will start the run. https://www.google.com/maps/pl.....?entry=ttu
For those coming up Saturday morning to run Slick Rock, the plan is to meet you at Rocky Point campground at 10:00 a.m. and then we will drive together to the trailhead.
So far myself, Brian and possibly Greg will be camping Friday night.

Since I will be driving up early on Sunday for the Deer Valley Run portion - who should I be looking for at the adjacent campground? I see Jeff - and others?
The Hermit Valley campground is about 100 yards or less off of Hwy 4 and is visible from the highway. It's a very small campground. When you turn off of Hwy 4 into the campground you should be able to see us. Here is the link to the location for the Sunday Deer Valley staging area (we will wait in the campground until everyone arrives): https://www.google.com/maps/pl.....;entry=ttu

Deer Posse,
I would love join you all on SR and DV. I'll be staying in Big Trees Village (just above Arnold, HWY 4) on Friday night and could meet you at the Rocky Point campground or SL trail head on Saturday morning. If possible I'd join you camping at Hermit Valley Saturday night. Either way, I would run with you on DV up to Deer Creek, shake hands, sign autographs and head back to Big Trees Village.
The last time I was on either trail was a year ago but I've been there a few times. Just an FYI, there's Corral Hollow just down the hill from Lake Alpine. If interested and there's time, it's worth doing the upper portion before heading up to Hermit Valley (~2hrs to the top and back) especially if you haven't done it and since you are there. If any of you wanted to run the whole thing on Friday (~2.5 hrs point to point), I'd be willing take you there.
Let me know if all is good or somewhat good and I'll see you there.

Looks like we are fine for having campfires at Rocky Point (Friday) and Hermit Valley (Saturday) campgrounds. You need a campfire permit for a campfire or a gas stove, so here is the link: https://www.readyforwildfire.o.....re-permit/
We should be able to gather firewood but if someone has room for a chainsaw, that would be good to have along.

Are you up that way very often? My in laws have a place in Dorrington and we stay up there several times a year. Would be awesome to connect and do Corral Hollow, Sourgrass, Roundtop or any of the other great trails up that way.

Well, we are two days away from the start of this run! Or three or four days depending on what segment of the run you plan to go on. For those doing both trails, it is a good idea to bring extra fuel. Fuel costs at Kirkwood (I think that is the closest gas station after doing Deer Valley) will be ridiculous plus it is a drive to get there so I highly recommend you bring extra fuel.
The weather is looking good but they are calling for partly cloudy weather, especially Saturday so be prepared for anything. Today they got some snow at Kirkwood and at the higher elevations. Be prepared for cold weather but I don't expect it to be super cold like it has been sometimes in the past. The fall colors should be starting to peak so it should be a beautiful trip. There is a chance that some of us might want to come back over the Strawberry trail on Sunday but that will be a game day call based on time and desire. If you want to take the scenic route home, take a run up to Hope Valley and then come back down Hwy 50 or just head up Hwy 88 a few miles and come back down Hwy 88. If you aren't familiar with Hope Valley, Google it and fall colors. It is usually stunning this time of the year. Hope Valley is so close to where we come out onto Hwy 88, we may just want to take a run up there as a group on Sunday if we get off the trail early enough.
As a reminder, it you indicated you are going on this run and if for some reason you can't make it, please post up or ideally make contact with someone who is going on the run and let them know. We will not likely have cell service so please try to make sure we know your status if something changes. We will use PosseV2 – 151.760 MHz for communications on this run. I will be that the club meeting tomorrow if you have any questions or just post them here.
