Sunday June 11th will be our first maintenance run of the year on Strawberry Pass Trail.  This is the trail the club sponsors and is closed to the public.  This is the Spring run and another run will be held in fall on a Saturday in an attempt to accommodate peoples schedules.  To maintain member status you must make 1 of the 2 maintenance runs.  These maintenance runs are the only way for non-members to run the trail.  That said, this is about trail clearing and maintenance for the forest service, not about running the trail.  We will likely see some progress on the trail in late summer so this run is crucial to identify any access issues for the trail repairs to begin.  Snow levels are deep this year but this run will be far later than usual so I am hopeful that we will make it at least most of the way up the trail.

Trip info:

Meeting place - Chevron at Fresh Pond exit off Highway 50 at 8:30am.  We will meet and after a quick drivers meeting will head up to the trailhead about 9:00AM.

Things to bring:

-Gloves

-Loppers/hand saw

-Chainsaw (please only USFS certified operators, no exceptions) and safety gear (chaps, eye protection, ear protection)

-Water

-Lunch

-Door magnets

-Good attitude (this is pubic land closed by a lawsuit, our effort here is what will reopen the trail and keep other trails open)

Please post if you will be attending.  A rig is not necessary to attend as there are plenty of open seats.  Just post up if you will need a ride and I will make sure you have a seat before we leave the parking lot.  If this is your first trail run with the club then please review the vehicle requirements.  Expect more details at the drivers meeting.

We are planning on going, but I still don't have my saw card.  On a secrete note it will be Betty's birthday she said she wanted to go anyway.

The club has a couple of sets of "USFS Volunteer" door magnets that we loan out to club members wanting to run a patrol of the trail (necessary when not on a club maintenance run).  Jeff has one set, not sure who has the other right now.

I have the other set of door magnets. Ping me if you need them. I'll get them to you.

We are so disappointed!  I will be in San Antonio for a meeting with my work and won't be able to participate on this run.  It is too bad as we really like the Spring Maintenance run.   Hopefully we can get in on a patrol later on.  Will definitely hit the one in October.  Have fun!

Its on our calendar to attend

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

That's a rough crowd, sure you want to get involved with hooligans like that?

ep5 snow gauge is down to 20" at 7,800ft and 50 is open to one way traffic.  Weather is, on the other hand, looking cold and possibly wet. Very cold (30s-40s) once we climb up to 6000+ft.  Dress warm, bring gloves.

I just heard today that snow is expected Sunday at 5000' I vote for a delay in the spring maintenance run till a mid summer July maintenance run? Does this sound like a better idea to anyone else?
