If you are with an experienced group and there isn't any kind of time limit, then it's possible to run part of the Rubicon and Fordyce with some stacking and strapping. The run into Ellis from Loon is pretty tame with a couple of hard patches. And the run down to the first river crossing of Fordyce Creek is tough but can be done on 33s and open. The climb out would be the biggest challenge.

how far do you guys usually go for a trip? My family has 2000acres in Cloverdale off of hwy 128 with about 100miles of 'roads' and trails. There's nothing hardcore, rock crawling wise, but some of the steeper hills can get interesting depending on how loose the ground is that day. I've actually run pretty much everything at street pressure in my Tacoma but some hills took several tries. Aired down there are no real issues and no need for lockers, usually. Cross country, off trail excursions are ok as long as we don't tear things up...leaving tracks in the grass doesn't count :p. I don't recommend doing this with the family SUV, however. Some less-used trails offer free pin-striping...I have some on my roof 😀
Open Jeeps with windshield down, no doors, encouraged. (how the ranch jeep is configured)
We also have a shooting range to 300yds so if you want to shoot, bring something to shoot at...NO glass!
If this dry weather keeps up I can offer the ranch for a day trip. There are 2 bathrooms in the cabin, pit BBQ, Weber BBQ, cook house, etc. If you have pig tags...well...:D
It might be too far from N Sac but what the heck :p I was up there on Fri with a couple friends taking some time to map out some of the roads with Gps. We still have about 2 days worth of driving around and brush clearing before its done. Some of the ponds still had ice by late afternoon but all the roads were clear of frost by noon, even in the deep, sheltered canyons. 4x4 is needed just to get up the main road to the back country but most any SUV with 4wd can get around to all but the steepest areas. Air compressors on site.
So, not much hard wheeling but very pretty country.

This sounds like some fun! Ronie and I love that area and used to spend a lot of time at the coast with Petaluma or Cloverdale as our jumping off point.
Of course, Ronie being raised in Petaluma and San Rafael she knew all the backroads.

your message just got through. I originally set things to auto subscribe...never changed it all these years so that shouldn't be the issue.

The terrain sounds very similar to what we encountered around Lake Barryessa last year and that was a FUN day.
Hytenor, Cloverdale is about a 2hr 45min trip for most of us. What are the possibilities of an overnighter? Would there be a cost? :dunno:
Hmmmm, might also look into a "romantic stay" at a local B&B. Oh, the possibilities! :girly:

I won't be sharing a room with you then 😯
I'm pretty sure he wasn't inviting you. 😛
I thought it was a club run, he'll have to be more specific in the future. Can't tell with these new guys

o well...missed the last 6 messages 🙄
yes, overnight is possible...room in the cabin as well as several, rustic bunk houses. Problem with this at the moment is that I can only do day trips...taking care of my wife post surgery from 3wks ago. She's ok on her on for a day but that's it.
I figured it would be iffy but since there wasn't anything going on....:p
I'm going to head up there next week some time, one way or another...need to clear a few trails and get some more gps tracks recorded.
best to email me if interested in going since notification is lacking.
also, navigating on the site is extremely slow of late.

no cost...we own the property :p
the acreage was bought in the late '60s as a hunting ranch and that's what it gets used for mainly.
looks like the distance is a bit much for Sac...o well. Those who might still be interested can always email me.
Once the rain starts we stay off the roads as they get torn up very fast.
