A little story about tube doors. Years ago I asked Trevor, the owner of WFO, what brand of tube doors he recommended for my TJ. His answer was "I don't". When I asked why he said because you get too cold. Well, I went against his advice and bought tube doors. On my first trip out I had to leave home very early in the morning to get to the staging area. I hit fog between Auburn and Placerville on highway 49 and froze my a** off. This was in late spring as I recall.
After that trip I bought half doors and I love them. The advantage of half doors are less wind, dust, mud and if you cross a creek, less chance of water infiltrating or flooding your cab. I sold my tube doors after one use. I now run half doors in spring, summer and fall and full doors during winter. Tube doors look really kool and are fun but if you get them, just be aware of the drawbacks. Both tube doors and half doors improve your ability to see obstacles because they are lower and you can lean out to see your tires better and are much better than running full doors on the more technical trails.
That's my 2 cents worth.

I've always run half doors (no full doors ever) on my jeeps.
The main advantage I experience is the water protection on creek crossings. I do plan to purchase tube doors for my bronco but I am looking for ones that either have fabric covers, or are a metal style, to avoid the freezing your butt off part.

Thanks for the feedback! So I’m looking to buy some half doors for my JL. Any suggestions on where to look to find some cheap?
Check Facebook Market Place. Found these but I don't know what they are worth: https://www.facebook.com/marke.....5230253e34

Early Monday I drove up to Loon Lake for the Rubicon run. It was very cold between Auburn and Georgetown. I was wearing pants and a coat and I eventually ended up turning my heater on for a little extra warmth. That was with my half doors on. Reminded me of why I sold my tube doors and bought half doors. Jamie has some nice tube doors with removable covers on them. Maybe he can share what brand they are.

I have the Bestop half doors and they have the removable panel to make them more like tube doors when you want them. I love them because they have a weather seal on them and 3 of 4 of them kept the water out when crossing over to Dirty Dozen camp earlier this week, but one of them leaked because the jeep door frame on that door must have some variation on it leaving a gap; another brand new door also had a gap when I put it on (so must be the Jeep not the doors in my mind). I am going to try a thicker weather seal on that door to compensate. The removable panels on the doors have a great seal on them and kept dry on the water crossing. They also lock for a bit more security in the vehicle, I don't have uppers so someone could always just crawl through. The doors are also setup to receive the factory uppers.
Downside: I don't see them for the JL. They are significantly cheaper than the factory half doors, however they are not cheap! I cannot find them on the Bestop website anymore, but Northridge still has them available for sale for the JK platform.
If you want to see them on my rig, go look at the new Rubicon photo gallery from earlier this week, the silver JKU.
