I have a TJ and I always have issues organizing my cargo for runs due to space limitations. I often have to burry things I want easy access to because I have to stack cargo on top of cargo. I though about building a platform in the tub but I didn’t want anything difficult to remove. I ended up buying a plastic Bestop Universal Cargo Rack and I mounted it by strapping it to two adjustable ratcheting pick-up truck cargo bars. I put lighter cargo like my tent, chairs, sleeping bags, etc. on the rack and I put the heavier stuff below on the floor of the tub. I have only used this on one trip but so far, so good. So if anyone else has the same problem this may be a good and reasonably priced solution. I didn’t want to buy the interior mounting brackets for the Bestop Universal Cargo Rack because it requires cutting the canvas and foam on the roll cage and because it would be difficult to remove when I don’t want the rack in the Jeep.

I like the idea of the adjustable height of the rack.  Would be great wen you never know exactly what you need for a specific trip.  I went about it the other way and simply cut a sheet of 1/2″ plywood at wheel well height and then found a cooler that would wedge in against the tailgate and packed my tools under how they would fit.  Somehow I didnt take any pics of making it but it was a good temporary solution.  I will be building a more permanent rack to suit like yours once i have a 12volt fridge/freezer.
