So my wife won't let me buy Troyman's axles...but, she will let me buy tires. So any recommendations?
I am looking for 37s for a 17 inch rim. I was thinking about the following.
MTR w/Kevlar
Old MTR (if I can find some)
Irok bias 37x14x17
used BFG Crawlers
Pitbull Rockers
Any thoughts? Its not my daily driver but I do drive to the trail and the mall in it.
Um...what?

Between the old and new MTRs, I'd get the new ones. At least you could get a new if you damage the new one. Especially if you get a road hazard type warranty. If you ruin an old one, you could just be out a bunch of money.
I don't have much experience with any other tires. The only other first hand trail experience I have with tires is Super Swamper TSLs and BFG ATs. I wouldn't consider either of those.

My opinion:
The old MT/R is a great tire, but be careful buying these because if you lose a sidewall on one of these, you may have a very hard time finding a replacement. These tires are not suited to mud at all, they are at home in the dry rocks. (Personal experience, not just watching others)
New MT/R seems to be nice, only seen them out the one time with Rob and they looked like they were going to do well.
Krawler is a very single purpose tire, but is very good at that single purpose if you run the sticky version, seems to be about average with the rest of the other tires out there in the non-sticky version and be careful of the sidewalls. (Not personal experience, but what I have seen on the trails and read)
Pitbull's, never seen anyone run them. The thing I don't like about them in particular is the use of very large blocks which seem like they would not grab as well as tires with mutliple blocks.
Irok's, my favorite tire out there and I run 'em. However, this isn't an apples to apples comparison with bias compared to Radials. I'd prefer the radials over bias any day, but either are good. The bias are going to be cheaper, but bias are generally going to be cheaper with any brand that offers them. Given the choice, I'd go with the Radials, they have a flatter tread pattern than the bias version. Sticking with the Radial theme, these hook-up great in the dry rocks, wet rocks, snow, mud and even do pretty well on the street. They are definitely NOT a "cheap" tire as so many seem to think. They have great sidewalls, great tread pattern, siped for snow/water wheeling, conform very well to the rocks and are a great all environment tire in my opinion. I'm moving to my second set of these and after about 15K miles, they've still got great tread left and only being replaced to go up to 39.5's.
If I were to go to something else other than the Irok's, I'd be looking at the Maxxis line-up.
Just for a quick break-down, here's what I found with a quick search on prices:
BFG Krawlers (non-sticky) - 37x12.5x17 - $459.99
Goodyear MT/R w/Kevlar - 37x12.5x17 - $329.99
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R (Old style) 37x12.5x17 - $379.99
Super Swamper Irok Radial 37x12.5x17 - $384.99
Super Swamper Irok Bias 37x14x17 - $279.99
Pitbull's - Couldn't find, but didn't look very hard 😀
Out in the garage collecting parts....

Everybody will recomend what they spent money on unless they truely suck. I put more value on what other people say they WOULD buy if they had to get a different tire. I can find you a thousand people that run and recomend TSLs
If I had to get a different tire, it would be the new MT/R. If I had to change brands all-together, I'd get some Creepy Crawlers. This comes from watching all the different tires coming through Sierra Trek. My third choice would be the Iroks radial.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

I think it was Fred that just had this problem. I think he ended up with the new style.
That was me. America's Tire only had the new MT/R to replace my old MT/R. To their credit though, they did manage to track down an old style tire on the east coast and said they could get it for me. I chose to go with the kevlar tire looking toward the future.

It is a goodyear rebate offer so it shouldn't matter where you buy the tires. However, the 12/no interest card is a goodyear card. You'd need to go to a goodyear dealer for that. They usually can beat America's Tire's prices, so check out several places before buying.
John went through Goodyear. I got mine from Wal-Mart. Both beat America's Tire. I bought Krawlers through America's tire and got a smoke'n price. So, shop around!

So the cheapest I have found is America's Tire for $316 a piece.
Walmart said they couldn't give me a quote over the phone and I would need to go on line to order them.
The Goodyear shop on greenback said they were on sale for $349 a piece
Another place in Folsom said $345 a piece.
But on pirate a shop is clearing there old style 37 mtrs and I could get a set of 5 for $200 a piece.
Any suggestions? I like $200 a piece but the new style are so hip. 😀
Um...what?

I'd have to agree. If you ruining one of the 5 after you bought them, you could always run a different brand on the spare - or trade me for my MT/R spare!
