Friends-
On our way into Buck Island this weekend (Thurs-Monday) we were warned by Merlin that there was a young bear hanging around at Buck and that it wasn't frightened of humans. Sure enough, when we arrived we saw it along the creek just hanging out. It's about 2-300 lbs and light brown/red in color. The guy at the camp next to the us fired 2 shots in the air from his 12ga. and the bear didn't budge. We spotted it again Friday morning in the same general area. We were all cautious to pick up our food and garbage so he didn't cause any trouble until yesterday morning. I got lazy and left our food box out over night. Well, Booboo (yes, my wife named it) paid us a visit, cleaned us out and made a mess. If you're planning on camping at Buck Island, be aware and be safe.
Happy Trails!

Bears used to be afraid of us...
Due to the Mamby-Pamby-ism of our current culture, bears see us as nothing more than an obstacle standing in the way of a free meal. To them, we are scared little bunnies with an irritating orange spray and high pitched whisltes. Gone are the days of the bears fearing our loud, roaring BOOM, and smoke bellowing out of our gun barrels. My how the tables have turned...

Actually I'm changing my opinion. Everyone should camp at Buck. It's the best place ever. Leave the Springs to drunks.
whoo hoo! lets get drunk keane. (actually i thought you turned hippy and meant ducks not drunks when i first read this. )

If you make it to the Springs, you might as well drive the last half hour out and stay at home.
I was thinking that too. Unless you are looking at multiple days of just camping and hanging out, an hour more seems like an easy decision.

Good thinking, you guys wouldn't like it anyway. Why even stop at Buck? They have bears there and it's only another few hours till you're done anyway.

So true...which is why I seldom camp on the Rubicon and never camp on Fordyce.
The last time I camped at Buck, I was almost ran over in the middle of the night by a bunch of Yahoos.
If the Yahoos don't get you, the bears will run off with your food. I say the heck with camping and drive on through

Are you afraid of the dark? I think you are afraid to camp anywhere but a camp ground Plus, Rubicon Springs is like 15 minutes further down the road from Buck Island for a 100 times better camping than Buck. Also it depends on what and how you drive that determines how long it takes to get from the springs to the Tahoe staging area. If you are hauling butt, you can do it in maybe 1 1/2 hours, most people it would take them 2 1/2 to 4 hours to get to the staging area.

Campgrounds are much worse. I'm still just as scared, but now there is a crowd of strangers laughing at me.
Don't even get me started on Hotel rooms...bring a black light with you next time :censor:
No sir, I'm not leaving my house ever again. Me and Alex are just going to hang out right here on the Posse forum.

Rob and I will waive from the creek on your way by. We'll have a frosty beverage in one hand and a steak on the BBQ. 😀 Yahooooooooooo!
