Yeah that will be pretty awesome if they stop the Caldor fire at strawberry pass. It’s definitely going to be a different place all around this county after the fire passes. Mormon emigrant is really going to be different, knowing it like the back of my hand its really going to be a strange place.

Awesome Robert, thanks! Looks like we will have a much wider area before the trail to air up or down in the future provided the fire doesn't shut it down.

By looking where they stopped the dozer line it appears they don’t anticipate it going to far south from there. Meaning it might not hit the actual trail at all.

KCRA News at 5 p.m. Saturday is showing significant spot fire activity on the hillside on both sides of Hwy 50 in the town of Strawberry, very close to the highway. It is working its way down the slope towards the town and highway.

It has reached Strawberry... Now we will have to see how much damage is going to be done to our trail.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

Correct.  According to the CalFire description my family cabin there burned down last night.  They were trying to save the lodge last I heard...

Maybe our trail will be toast. Evacuations issued for just east of bear river reservoir to picketts junction. Evacuation for Christmas valley on the back side of echo summit. Cal fire staging has been moved from sierra at tahoe ski resort to echo summit. The winds today are really driving this fire up the mountain fast.

The winds are going to be stronger tomorrow. They will be lucky if they can stop it at Hwy 89. It looks like it may also go into the Desolation Wilderness as well. Very intense fire activity today and will be even worse tomorrow. Sad.

This is understandable but so sad. All our effort over the past several years to improve the trail and return it to its pre-closure condition have gone to waste. I suspect that restoring the trail to a moderate 4X4 trail will be a very low post-fire priority and will take years at best, if they ever do. What's really amazing is that one fire could potentially impact Strawberry, Barrret, Deer Valley and the Rubicon.

A very sad day for all of us.

The Strawberry Trail has been a big part of the Posse Club since its beginning.

We re-opened the trail many years ago after years of neglect and have maintained it since.

I can only hope we get a chance to go back in there after a few years and start some reconstruction, hope it's not lost forever.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

Here's a thought we should reach out to Cal4wheel and let them know about Strawberry Trail in case they don't know yet. May be they have enough clout to get further information.

At 1 p.m. on Monday the fire is very close to Caples Lake. Looks like the fire will be going through the southern end of the trail very soon. The fire is also on the back side of Kirkwood near Silver Lake. As you probably know, all of south Lake Tahoe is under a mandatory evacuation order.

I hope we can work with Cal 4X4 and other organizations to try to procure state or federal disaster relief or other funds with the ultimate goal of having them used to restore the trail at the appropriate time. While it may seem premature, these types of funds are often first come, first serve. I also wonder if we can get some information from CalFire sooner rather than later as to the current condition of the trail, including dozer and fire damage.

I have kept in touch with Kyle for a long time & thought about asking a few questions pertinent to recent events; below is his answer.

"Hi Guy.  All good questions and I wish I could answer them!  It does show a dozer line along Strawberry trail, but not sure the extent.  There’s no way of telling how extensive the burn is around that area but hopefully it wasn’t too severe.  Sometimes it looks worse than it really is.  But, yes, we will most likely need you guys more than ever."

I responded & told him we are ready anytime & to let us know when & to what extent. Sounds like we have some work to do, I look forward to it!
