Yeah, if you did this you could do pretty much anything you want with the engine, trans & t-case. You could even leave the engine running, trans in reverse and t-case in 4-low. lol

"Justin" wrote: [quote="Bender"] Can you get a dolly that will safely hold onto 37s? Oh wait...safety isn't a concern. Just use bungee cords to hold the front wheels on the dolly. lol

I don't think I have seriously condoned unsafe towing since this thread was started. So yes, safety is a concern with me. I'm towing a $30k Jeep behind a expensive RV that doesn't belong to me. But, I never thought about useing bungee cords.............I might look into that.[Image Can Not Be Found]

I was acutally half serious (the first half). Can the tie down areas on most dollys fit a 37? They're typically used on a vehicle with much smaller tires. Is the "cup" that the tire sits in big enough to keep a 37 in place? Are the straps long enough? Maybe it's a non issue. I have no dolly experience, I was just trying to come up with things to check.

That would certainly help to maximize fuel usage. 😀

I have some 31" tires on wheels in case I need to run a smaller tire for a trailer or dolly. I figured I could put two 37"s in the back of the Jeep if I go that route. (smaller front tires for a dolly).

I also thought about if I break something that renders my Jeep unable to be flat towed or dollied, I could rent a u-haul trailer down south for $50 to tow the Jeep home.

Great plan with the dolly. I didn't think about the smaller tire idea! Also, Rob could toss the tires in his truck if he had to. Plus dolly's are cheap and don't have a mileage restriction!

I was just poking around a bit regarding tow dollies. It seems they're generally meant for smaller lighter cars and may marginally have enough load capacity for a built up & armored Jeep. Width of the Jeep might be a problem too. Here's a link to U-Haul to get you started on the specs.

Didn't Rob post some pictures of his Jeep with little front tires a while back?

Yeah, I saw the specs on the Uhaul web site but, I have found heavy duty dollies that are designed for bigger vehicles. (buddy has one that I could possibly borrow).

Lock the steering wheel in straight and tow it backwards! If you have hubs there are no problems. If not, remove the front driveline.

Apparently this too is arguable whether or not its a good idea. I have no personal comment since I've never used a tow dolly, but here's a short discussion of the idea.

Like I said before, if it comes to something like that, I will just rent a trailer down there and tow the Jeep home. 8)

I have a very sensitive stomach. Your recklessness will cause me to worry resulting in extreme gas. Kelly will not be happy. You'd best skip a meeting or two until she cools down a bit. lol
