I'm still holding the two sleds you requested as well.  Hopefully you can have a snow trip this winter.

Update on Shaina: this is a hard one to read be warned.

So everything is fine today not to worry. But we had one heck of a weekend, Shaina's last chest tube was pulled out on Christmas eve but apparently when that tube was put in it was punctured through one of her arteries and nobody knew because it sealed itself so there was no bleeding. When it got pulled out it opened up the arterie and she started massively hemorrhaging and all hell broke loose. She lost all the blood in her body twice over they were giving her massive blood transfusions and they had to open her chest up right here in her room cause there wasn't enough time to get her to the OR. She started to crash and they called a code blue, Robin and I were standing right here with her and we lost it. The Dr's worked hard and fixed her up they said if the chest tube would have severed the arterie Shaina would have bleed to death and there would have been nothing they could have done to save her. We truly witnessed a Christmas miracle that night

Mike, we have no words.  What y'all must have been going through even after what you've been through.  Thank you for the updates.  We think of y'all all the time.  Your baby and family are still on our prayer list.

Hey Mike:

I read your post this morning and have been struggling a bit with how to respond. Very relieved to hear that she is doing OK. . . and I am sure that the next update will be positive and will not involve any surprises!

We are keeping little Shaina (and her family!) in our prayers. Looking forward to the next update. Thanks!

Mike,

We echo Buck's response... It is very hard to comprehend all that your family and Shaina have been through.  It makes the pitiful few problems that we think we have look so insignificant...

As always we are keeping your family and Shaina in our prayers.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

It's hard to understand what you and your family are going through! I know it is difficult. Faith and the support of your friends and family goes a long way in keeping you strong. Know that the Posse family is praying for your family. We almost lost our 20 year old daughter (Terra) when she was 7. The deacon even gave her her Last Rights at the hospital. The situation is different, but the heartache and worry is very similar. I know we relied very much on family and friends to help us through. Please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. I can bring food to the hospital, or anything you may need. Please call me if you need to, even just to talk things over. My prayers are with Shaina, you and your family!

Thank you everyone Shaina is getting better everyday no more breathing tubes or oxygen help of any kind. She is starting to say a word or two and even got out a little sentence the other day. We are being told and thinking we will be out of the pediatric ICU within a week or so then we can get started on the physical therapy to get Shaina back to her feet. We found time to give her a spa day this last weekend with a nice bedside bath, hair-do and toe nails. She enjoyed it very much.KIMG0114.JPGImage Enlarger

Next positive update:

As of 4am this morning Shaina is officially out of the PICU and in the normal pediatric floor, still waiting on our single room as of now we are sharing with one of our PICU neighbors from upstairs named Hunter.

I will have an open invitation for anyone who would like to stop by and say hi once we are in a single room.

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers it has truly been a blessing to my family and I as the prayers and our faith is what has kept us strong throughout this whole ordeal.

New update not too good but all is well now.

This last week was a tough one as y'all know we were moved out of the PICU to regular peds floor. That's where it went bad, UC Davis is a teaching hospital and a mistake was made. They started giving Shaina the wrong formula for her feeds and doubled the amount she was to have and got very dehydrated, luckily she started throwing up the feeds because her potassium went sky high and if she hasn't thrown up most of the feeds she probably wouldn't have made it.

But PICU Drs came to the rescue and took her back upstairs and she is good now almost back to where she was.

The kidney Drs said they are not sure if her kidneys will ever come back after the hit they took from that insident but we have faith they will.

Update:

Nephrology came to my wife today to tell us Shaina needs a kidney transplant...

And have to have a new transplant every 15 years or so the rest of her life

I'm at a loss I don't know what to say or do, staying strong for the family and waiting to see if my wife or I are compatible for giving one of our kidneys to our daughter.

I truly hope this is the last bad news I have to post I hope from here on out I have nothing but good news.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers while my family goes through this season in life.

We definitely prefer the good news but am glad you are keeping us updated with good or bad news. You are in our prayers that Shaina finds a donor kidney soon! Keep the faith! I truly believe God has a plan for all of us. It is hard to imagine what that plan may be sometimes, but He has a plan for Shaina and your family. Let us know if there is anything we can do.

Mike, there must be some small thing that we can do to help. How about an occasional meal or do you need a hand with any chores? Please, tell us how we can help or what you and your family might need. This has to be putting a strain on your family and simple things like meals and such might help allow you to spend more time with Shaina or more quality time with your other children.

Has anyone set up a go fund me account? I have to think that there must have been some significant financial impacts such as lost wages and direct expenses such as commuting to and from the hospital. I think I can speak for all of us who just can't imagine what you are going through but would like to help in some way. Please let us know how we can help your family!

Thank you everyone the thoughts and prayers mean the world to us right now.

Other than the bad news Shaina is doing great her spirits are high and has a smile that will melt your hearts.

The news was here doing a story about a build a bear thing and Shaina was on the TV she is the cutie with the little mermaid shirt on if you want to watch the news footage

Got to the hospital and Shaina has had her IV locked and is eating real food!!!!

Ya Shaina!!!!

Hopefully getting in rehab so we can work on getting her home. Then build her strength for the upcoming surgeries.

But all and all doing good.

Jeff R mentioned that if we needed anything like dinner or anything just say so, so I'm asking now. I have 2 older boys who's mom was taking care of them while we went thru this but she is done helping out now. I disabled father is up from the bay area to get the boys to and from school and my mother n law lives with us but both are elderly and don't cook. So if anybody is willing to make a meal for  us and freeze it then it could just be pulled out and heated when needed for the rest of the family and my father could bring down leftovers to us to enjoy also. This may be asking a lot and it's definitely not expected of anyone but anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all, love the Gallagher's

Thanks!
