I was just through today and we cleared the really big tree that was being bypassed. I just wanted to report back on the trail in general. It has been a few years since I've been up there and I must say it looks great! You guys do a really good job and it show. Thanks for taking care of one of my favorite trails.
That being said...
There were several spots were it was not clear to me where the intended trail was, and at least once where after I chose I realized I had chosen poorly. It seems to me that what is needed is some of those fiberglassish maker poll things that stick up in the middle of the "not it" route.
The other thing is that I didn't notice any big sign at the beginning like I think I remember there being a few years ago. We did run into a yahoo who I think mostly out of ignorance was not being very conscientious about staying on the trail. We tried to educate him without being asses and I think it worked for the most part as he calmed down. My point is that perhaps a big sign at the trail head explaining the rules and the reasons for such would help folks like him not be yahoos.
Take this for what it is... just a bit of feedback I hope it is constructive.
Thanks again to all of you who have put time into that trail. It show.

this just got posted on SN4WD
"So as of Sunday night.......you CAN"T take a stock rig through Strawberry anymore...... holy CR@P!!!!!!!!!!!!
This trail is in mad need of help Trees down every which way that you go, over growth in all directions, and the Rocks, Holy crap the rocks, HUGE ones that have come down from the MTN. What is left from V-Rock will hurt no matter what line you take. you will end up with major rock rash to the back passy side wheel, I had to hi-lift myself out, sorry we did it at night no pics but however we did do DEER VALLEY saturday & sunday, I have over 200 of that one, will get them up soon. VERY EASY, no major holes nor problems, hell we saw a stock (yes STOCK) 05-06 land crusier and land rover come in and out with no damage at all."
was there some sort of major earthquake that nobody else felt? :p

hmm, must be....
the latest:
"Well that is all good and dandy, I was there and that was or is some crappy trail work, at some points you couldn't go through unless you drag trees and bush down the side of rig, no I totally believe in some "tail work" some time it is needed, but come on I drove the ZUZU, it is not a full size rig, the first half of the trail was barely wide enough to take a Rhino in!! the spots with the colverts in place for run off, half of those are in major need of repair, I know what they are to look like, I help haul and place the dam things in there. and I call B.S. on V-rock back to its normal state. I call BULLS**T! With water and mud with HUGE holes to "try" to go through at the same time that you try not to flop your rig over, There is NO way that was even touched by anyone since they blew that rock up, heck it is worse then when kev flopped there last year, and it would of happened to me & the yota with me, sas on 36's, if it wasn't for the stacking of rocks! Come run you will see. I wouldn't want to put my name to that kind of trail clean up."

I don't see how since some of you were on the thing just last week or so.
I posted the link to this thread so... 🙄
the trail has never been "stock" friendly in the 5yrs I've run it...although the first time I drove it we did get a stock Taco through from the south side, even down what used to be the falls...w/o a scratch 😉

It sounds like they were probably trying to take the bypasses that others have put a lot of work into blocking.

Hopefully someone will stop by. Pictures of the "problems" are even better. It's unfortunate that the entire forum is private.

Of course it's all private. They are part of the problem with trails. I'd like to see the pics of the "narrow" parts of the trail. I've taken a BRAND NEW JK 4-door up part of it. It's black. There are no scratches. I didn't run past v-rock however since I don't have a t-case skid right now.
These kinds of communications need some responses. Yes, there are trees down everywhere. They are closing the by-passes! We need Lee to work more with Ron to get the "by-pass closed" signs in for posting...
Figures... 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

Two words...DRIVING LESSONS...nuff said.
When I was Trail Master I would search around the internet and find others talking about the Strawberry trail. This is nothing new. People were always complaining that the trail was either too hard or too easy. I was always putting out fires and convincing people to not go and alter the trail to suit there personal needs. There are enough dirt roads out there to explore in your stock rigs, so either learn how to drive or stick to the easy stuff. If you're looking for good obstacles, go to the Rubicon or Fordyce. The Strawberry is a challenge for stock rigs and too easy for built rigs. That's the way it's always been and the way it needs to stay. It's a great trail to cut your teeth on and learn how to wheel.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

the trail has never been "stock" friendly for the 5yrs I've run it so frankly I don't know what the problem is. It is possible that you wound up on some of the bypasses that they have been trying to block for several years now...I dropped 4 trees into one a fews years back.
I suggest you post your complaints here:

Chris, Dude are you kidding me. WE ran it 4xs last year in 2wd, hell we even got 2 full size trucks through with out poblems & a BONE ASS STOCK TJ, he did it in 2wd, Don't take my word, post up on other boards (TTORA PIRATE ) and such you will hear the same of what the trail was or has been for the last 5 years & no we ddn't wind up on a bypass, those are all still in tack. I am not trying to step on toes or piss anyone off. I am just calling it like I see it. If you would like I could post pictures up of the past runs up strawberry, dry that is, cause in the wet ( snow ) it is a diffrent animal all together.

That was after the idiot hunters tore down the V-Rock and the Waterfall.

The trail was much, much harder 5 years ago before the "stock" rigs tore down all the obstacles. I have tons of pictures of the Wtaerfall and V-Rock to prove it. In fact it was just a couple of years ago that people were complaining that we made the trail too easy. They thought that we had torn down the obstacles.

"JohnDF" wrote: This poor little trail doesn't stand a chance if the greens are going to attack it and the offroad community is also attacking it. Nice timing 🙄
I think these two quotes sum it all up. We (the offroad community) spend so much time pissing and moaning that the only people that are going to win in the end are those that want the trail closed. There will always be spots on the trail that need some touch up work, and there will always be someone that doesn't feel that the trail meets their particular needs.

Excerpt from the Norcalttora's trail rating system. It was written years ago and clearly communicates that it is not a trail for purely stock 4wd's.
"4-6 - Four wheel drive is required for many sections of these trails. Lockers are helpful. High clearance is a plus for navigating obstacles including boulders, moderately deep water crossings, and deep ruts. Sections of the trail may be steep or off-camber. Rock sliders and high-clearance bumpers will go a long way to prevent body damage. "
The brush you encounter before entering the trail is beginning to encroach onto the road from the 50 side, but not bad enough to scratch any vehicle, especially the right size vehicles to get through the trail with.
I'm less than 30 minutes away from the trail and will be glad to meet with him/them on the trail to record their concerns with camera and notebook in hand. I'll make time on any Sat or Sunday.
Diplomacy in getting the clubs on the same page would help all of us (I think).

I definitely agree with gamfam on the diplomacy thing. I don’t know what the nature of this club is but in order to keep the trail we need the cooperation of the entire trail user community. If we start a fight with them we will lose because there is no way we can police the trail. The users have to police themselves and that means they need to feel like they have some ownership in it. If we make them feel like it’s us against them they will not feel ownership. Like John said if we have to fight a two front war for this trail with the green on one side and trail users on the other we will lose. That means our success pivots on not engaging these guys in a fight.
How about asking them as a club to join us for a work day to help get the problems taken care of? I guarantee any of them we could get to show would be protectors of the trail from that day on. Let’s focus on “how can we draw them inâ€
