Hey guys! Need your help. Just got off the phone with Brad who ran Strawberry today with Earl and a friend to clean up a couple trees at the top and found that the bypass by pinch rock has been removed. We are going to need volunteers for the repair.
I know that a lot of people are headed up to Fordyce on Sunday, but if there are some who would be willing to help with this much needed repair, it would be greatly appreciated. If someone damages any part of our sponsored trail, it is in our contract with the forestry department to make sure that it is taken care of asap. So please let me know who all is able to make it. At this point it is only Brad and myself, so we could use any and all help that is available. We will need shovels and would like to see at least 5 rigs if not more!
Thank you in advance and talk to you soon!

Not sure why this couldn't be done on Sat. or wait until next weekend. People have had the Fordyce run planned for well over a month now. Waiting one week to do this will not get the trail closed. Please explain the urgency? I am still running Fordyce for those of you who still want to go.

I think the sense of urgency is a good thing. Below is a copy of a post back in April showing the types of comments being logged in the record books.
John (to his credit) tried to "rally the troops" last year to get up to Strawberry earlier than the scheduled maintenance run date with limited success.
I'm still trying to figure out my schedule this weekend before commiting . . .

I thought the group might be interested in this comment from the ENF EIS. I also heard rumors of people sitting at the top of the trail cataloging usage.

I have an open seat as well. We'll have to look at meeting times to determine a location. Since it may be only the three of us, You can meet at my house at 745 and we can leave at 8.
Still not sure why this can't wait until the following weekend when you would get more help ❓

Brad, I already spoke with Lee and I'll meet up with Lee at his house and then cruise up your way.
FYI, I think the urgency is to get it taken of sooner than later before the problem gets any worse. Weather is getting nicer and more people will be on the trail, making the problem worse. Even if it can't be completely fixed this weekend with a few available folks, it should get some attention before it gets worse.

I can't speak for Lee and scheduling, but next weekend is fathers day and my sons b-day, so I'd be out. The following weekend we're out of town and then heading to the Rubicon. I guess a second team could head up next weekend and complete any remaining work.
All it takes is some photos of the problem to get back to the USFS. For those of you who don't know, the Strawberry trail divides two registered wilderness areas. It would be a point of pride of a certain group were able to close it...

I agree with both parties here. I AM going to Fordyce, but I know the urgency for our adopted trail. Two work parties is a good idea.
There is no sense in making this dramatic.
This is a discusion forum, not a beauty salon.
I am willing to get to Strawberry next weekend if a party is going.
Please take pictures and let us know what we need to do to help, next week.

Let me know what you can get done! Sounds like we really need signs. The folks that pulled the tree out of the way may have thought they were doing everyone a favor!

Strawberry is basically a 2 wheel drive scenic route. You are always going to get people up there that are going to move the 1 or 2 obstacles out of the way so they can get the family through. It is also used heavily by hunters in the fall. So they too will move the obstacles out of their way to get through. It is a loosing battle unless you can move 50 ton rocks into that area. Most likely someone will re-open it again within the month.

You could say the same for nearly any trail in any town, in any state of the country. That is the exact reason why work parties need to be formed to correct the situation and inform people who are not aware of the route. There are not enough trails as it is, and whether this one is a 2-wheel drive route or note, shouldn't matter. The fact is, it's one of very few trails available that needs to be maintained in order to keep it open.
The route of ignoring it because it will only get worse, will just end up with one more trail being closed because no one cares enough to keep it in check. Just think of that same stance had been taken a while back with that big hole in the Fordyce trail that swallowed the tractor......

But I have additional interested in Strawberry because I have been running it for over 30years. First as a passenger, then as a student driver and now as a student driver. I don't want this trail closed because it is the one I want my son to learn on, just as I did.

Since I know you wanted to run Fordyce, just let me know your weekday off and we'll run it through. I'll take a day off to go! 8)

You are blowing this way out of proportion. Read what I said before spouting off. I was saying that you need to find a way to find a more permanent way to close it. In no way did I ever say that ignoring it was the way to go. Quit putting words in my mouth.
