If it is a quality brand CB and antenna then it will likely be already tuned properly. The issues I had were not grounding a ground-plane antenna, using a super cheap cable, not wiring directly to the battery, and not running a spring with an antenna that is designed for it.
It is a cobra dx 19 and i have a 5' firestick antenna. So hopefully i can just turn it on and it will work... it usually that simple right? Haha

Good point, I will think of another way to warm up my chili.
So, D, are u planning on bringing chili to feed the gang? If so I can do homemade cornbread and sides such as sour cream and shredded cheese, or chips if u prefer... Or... And this might be a southern thing.... Rice???

I'm in for this run. My tires are highway tread worn to the tread wear markers (not bald). Any recommendations wether I should take my truck on this run or should I be asking for a ride?
Hi Rich! I don't know how much snow is up there or will be when we go and I don't know the trail at all, but even as relatively equipped as mine is with near-new KM2s, I'm worried about getting through. Street tires down to the wear bars sounds like trouble. Anyone with more experience wanna weigh in?
Maybe catch a ride for this one if that's the case. Don't want to spin your tires all day. At this point, I have an open seat.

If you still have a seat available, i'll take it! I keep wishing my truck was better equipped, but I guess the genie stopped granting wishes.

See the first post or calendar for details.
Here's the Soda Springs (~6700ft) webcam which is the closest I could find. Bowman Lake is ~5600ft.

Plan B?
I thought I had heard that Tahoe National Forest roads didn't have winter closures. I sent a message to see if I could get any info just to be safe. Here is the response I got today.
Hi Kevin,
I was just asking the district trails manager about this. I found out that the only 4x4 route open after Dec 31 is the Fordyce Trail, and that is only if there is 15 inches or more of snow on the roadway.
Bowman Lake Road will be closed as part of the Travel Management Plan. You can find the Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) that detail route designations and seasonal closures here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/.....rdb5274868 or pick them up for free at any Tahoe National Forest ranger station.
If you have specific questions about Fordyce or other 4x4 routes in the Yuba River Ranger District you can contact Paul Hart, Trails Manager at 530-288-3231.Sarah Hill

I'll be away tonight but will be thinking about a Plan B. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

This is what I don't understand. The website says it's open. I heard Grouse Ridge is open and fun to drive as well. It is off Hwy 20 take Washington Road. Or we can go TNF Road 19 out of Yuba Gap. I hear that is open as well.
Um...what?
