Barrett Lake Trail Run and overnight camping (at Barrett Lake) - Fri. Sept. 15 to Sat. Sept. 16, 2023
[I haven't run the trail before, so anyone who has is welcome to jump in as lead (my feelings wont be hurt). That said, if no one wants to lead it, I will and any input from those who've done the run recently is appreciated.]
Meet at 7:30am at Silver Fork 76 gas station and store (address: 13200 US-50, Kyburz, CA 95720).
Depart for the trail about 7:45am. Come early if you want to top off on gas or grab any last minute items to support a local business.
The goal is to make it to the trailhead ~8:15-8:30am, air down and hit the trail no later than 9:00am so we can make it to the camping area by the lake in the early afternoon and get a camping spot for the night. The following day we will plan to leave the lake about noon time and be off the trail between 3:30-4:30pm depending on traffic and what not.
My understanding is the trail is difficult / not recommended for stock rigs. Per the Hi-Landers: the gateposts at the Trailhead are 85 ¾ inches apart at the top flange and 86 ¼ below the flange and are used as a gauge; if your vehicle cannot fit between the gateposts it will not make it through the squeeze points on the trail. So in addition fitting between the gateposts and the club's minimum vehicle requirements, I think a suspension lift, 35 inch tires and rear traction aid are recommended minimums. As always a positive, friendly attitude and willingness to help others is required. We will limit this run to 10 rigs, as I believe there is limited camping space at the lake. We will plan to use the club's PosseV2 HAM frequency (or another if needed) for communications, so bring your HAM radios in addition to your camping gear, food and water.
If a day on the trail is priceless (and it is)... then how great is a day on the trail that leads to camping by a pristine lake in the high Sierras?

Unfortunately this conflicts with the Fiddlers Jam in Fiddletown on Saturday and we volunteer at it, so I cannot stay the night.
However, I could likely do a Friday day run. Is there anyone else who would not be able to camp but would be interested in doing a turnaround on Friday? We could go in with the group, have lunch, then head back out.

I'm excited for this trip. Do we have an updated members list of who is attending? As stated earlier, I have a friend who would like to attend, but he is not a club member and I want members to have first dibs.
From what I can tell, attendees are as follows:
Camping:
- Brian
- Robert & Amber
- JigglyJr
- Jeff
- Greg
- Greg's Friend Tom - JL Rubicon on 37s
Day tripping:
- Jamie
- Kevin?
Anything or body that I am missing?
Um...what?

Is this the issue of it overheating at Sierra Trek? What was the issue?

Yeah basically. Turns out the belt tensioner loosened up and was backing itself off causing slack on belt. I tightened that up and drove it around for a while and its fine.

Heard on one of my podcasts that winter was rough on Barrett lake trail, they said more difficult than it has been in years, should be a fun challenging day tomorrow!
I saw a similar post yesterday. They said they had to pull winch line right after they got through the gait. It has been seven years since I run this trail with the club. I'm sure a lot has changed since then.
